Wrong. Competition stems from the vendors seeking to make a profit thus hardware prices will be low. 99% of games were complete shit. Think DLC is bad? How about paying out the ass for a game you can download to your calculator for free?
If the majority of the games are garbage, people will still buy them. However, it did end with the '83 crash, didn't it? People will take the shortest route to success. If it means churning out several dozen shitty titles just to make a few bucks, people will take that option.
Exclusivity and shelling out 3 or 4 times the amount needed to play a single game dose not compute.
