Looks like us UK folk are being taxed for our consoles again. Current exchange rates have $499 at £321, yet we're paying £429 for the Xbone. Are we getting anything more for our extra cash? Games being converted into proper English? A Tardis sound when the console boots up? Free cups of tea?

Anything?

499? is okay.
I expected it between 400? and 500? as I do for the PS4. Maybe PS4 will be a bit cheaper but I wouldn't count on Sony going lower than 449?.
Also the US prices has been the EU price for ages. Accept it that the EU price includes sales tax and maybe other stuff like higher handling charges.
The release date is favourably.

A $500 console with a big brother policy and crap for exclusive content. Yes, this surely will go flying off the store shelves. I think anyone who said this console was going to sell well needs to pay up since they just lost the bet.

$499 bucks... isn't that how much the PS3 debuted at?

And wasn't it TRASHED for having a ridiculously high price?

Hooooooooooooo boy...
599 actually. but it's almost as bad. If the annalists are correct it only costs companies 275 bucks to make a console. If Sony were to even sell it between 350-450 bucks they would have an upper hand in the market.
Console developers run a loss at the beginning of the console cycle. These boxes cost more than $499 to make and market. When the cost come down is when they start making profits on each console. $275 is not even realistic(maybe for older consoles).

Well as someone else put it. $399 for the console, $100 for the Kinect.
But nobody WANTS the fucking Kinect.

Microsoft have lost it by making the POS mandatory.

"Update: Those who purchase the Xbox One on launch day will receive special "Day One Edition" controllers for the console which read "Day One 2013." Expect most of these to be snapped up by those who pre-order the system."

Oh well that settles it. Here is my money Microsoft. Coz that sort of shite matters.
You know, I now understand how the Japanese felt when they first saw the Xbox.

Poor Microsoft! Who knew that the Xbox One would become so Infamous before it was even launched? Microsoft established itself as a veritable God of War with the Xbox 360 but their newest console is taking a Journey into truly Uncharted territory and it has been met with heavy Resistance from gamers. Truly the internet collective will be sad to see The Last of Us Xbox supporters as we jump ship to the PS3, Wii U or even PC. Some are even saying that Microsoft has caused the greatest shit storm in gaming history. Me? Well, I'm quite certain this whole situation is nothing more than some Heavy Rain.

I'm sorry... subliminal what?

You know what $500 (plus extra for the live account and extra controller) can get you... A decent PC.

$499 price point
I'm probably repeating everyone here, but that's pretty high. Call me naive, but I was not expecting that. We'll probably here about one with a 2 year xbox live subscription at a lower price but still, it'll probably be like $300 at least

I hope the ps4 is cheaper than that considering it doesn't come with a spy camera kinect. I know it comes with the eye toy but hopefully it won't too over the top in in terms of its specs

Regional pricing isn't new. Just look at any other commercial goods sold world wide. The consoles are sold at a loss already, and the Americans can't afford the full price.

We actually get less, as the majority of the tv related 'features' dont work outside the US.

Knowing Microsoft, they'll probably sell us the ability to watch the BBC as a feature.

It costs £430 in the UK and $499 in the EU.

For all you economics fans out there, that means it's $160 dollars more expensive outside the US.

Yeah, fuck you Microsoft.
Don't forget that outside the US none of the TV stuff even fucking does anything!

So you're paying $160 more for less stuff and less functionality.

I'm sad that it's being pre-ordered so much.

Hopefully the PS4 has a sensible price point. I already said if I can get one with Killzone: Shadow Fall and a decent sized hard drive (please dear god let me replace it with an SSD), then £350 is about right for me.

Further details? What more could they possibly announce to make the Xbone any less desirable?
I think at this point the only thing Microsoft could do to make its reputation any worse is ship the unit with a swastika on the box and have the hard drive come pre-installed with granny porn.

and I'd rather use $500 to buy games. Seriously, I'm getting the feeling that this gen is gonna be a repeat of last due to the Wii U having the lowest price tag

500$ for this thing, and it spies on you like the Telescreen from 1984. I wouldn't be surprised if every day at 7 pm it broadcasted a 3 minute hate against Sony or Nintendo or something like that. This is like Apple-level douchebaggery (and I should know, owning far too many Apple products).

Pre-order bonuses for consoles now? Really? Still, I suppose it may have it's benefits. At least it'll help identify who needs to be sterilised for the sake of the future of humanity, just by checking what kind of Xbone controller they own.

Give it time, I'm sure they'll find ways to make it even worse.

OT: It seems that MS did not pay attention at all to the launch of the PS3 then as that price will get it laughed out of the market. Not to mention that the games they showed really didn't endear themselves to me.

Now to post this because Sony and Nintendo must be doing this right now:

There is about only ONE thing that's made me interested in the Xbox One and that's the claim that they can update and change game worlds. I mean think about Susan Arendt's article a while back about mixing Skyrim biggness with Dragon Age immersion...if the xbox one could do that I might be tempted to purchase it...

Otherwise.....yeah...not happy. Not happy with having to check in with the Xbox like it's my mother and I've been out past curfew, not happy that Microsoft and it's publishers won't consider me an owner after I FUCKING PURCHASED THE GOD DAMN GAME, not happy that I have to have this damn kinect since there's a reason why I didn't buy the first one, not happy with the price point (not saying it's not fair, it may very well be, but still not happy with it), not happy with that they're trying to make me fucking share everything I do.

Most importantly I'm not happy that I can't be happy about a new console. I love console gaming. I should be upset that I don't have the money to purchase this thing and I want it so bad cause I so want to see the new games!...but I'm not and that pisses me off the most.

Sony needs to sell PS4 for $498 and they'll own this generation. Unless Nintendo hit them with 497 and WiiUU...

That "$ = ?" thing sucks tho'.

"Amazon, can I pre-order but have my console with the standard controller and not being branded a fool?"
:p
