It must be becoming insanely difficult for fans of Microsoft and the Xbox to defend the console now. >.<

I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't allow you to move the file to a networked computer (or hell, attached storage) instead of forcing upload from the system. Wait... they'd likely make that feature Windows 8 exclusive if it existed.

I know it's easy to criticise Microsoft for putting this feature behind a paywall, but perhaps they just have a more realistic idea of the bandwidth involved and costs incurred in uploading HD video on their network.
Yeah, I don't have a problem with it costing something to upload stuff to MS's service. But I don't see why I have to upload it. If I had a DVR feature, I'd mainly use it to watch the video myself. Why can't it just save the clips to the hard drive. Then just give me a way to copy it to my PC or something like dropbox if I want to upload it somewhere else. That wouldn't use any of their bandwidth. Of course, we're talking about the same company that requires Gold to use Netflix, which also doesn't cost them anything.

It's cool that with Gold you can probably just click a button or two to share the clips with your friends or whatever, I just don't see why that's the only option.
I don't know, perhaps they'll encode the video with their propriety codec so that they'll only play on an Xbox One, maybe to prevent tampering and misleading editing of video with external software. They may have had to strike a deal with the publishers that stated they were only allowed to give gamers the ability to record and upload game footage if it was recorded and uploaded 'as it' and couldn't be easily externally edited.

I know that the replays in Forza 4 were saved in a format that could only be read by the Replay Theatre within Forza 4, so if you wanted to upload the video to an external video site you had to use the in-game movie maker to turn it into a fixed angle movie clip and covert it into a video format that could be played outside the game.

There are probably sound technical and legal reasons behind their decision... it's not all down to megalomania and the simple desire to aggrieve people.

Seriously, has anyone been keeping a list of all the stupid things the Xbone did? I imagine its pretty long by this point.

Then we can just say that Microsoft is completely ignoring their strengths *cough*like win8*cough*. Instead of going straight to THE CLOUD, they could have brought it back over to the linked windows system for editing. If you'll remember, MS used to be really proud that they had a better built-in editing feature than (OS with a cat name here). Or you could just use whatever program you want because having a large software catalog on a relatively-open OS is, again, what made Windows a mainstay.

The sudden obsession the company has with control is rather baffling.

There are lots of things you can do with the Xbone without an XBL Gold subscription:

- Buy the Xbone
- Look at the Xbone
- Be looked at by the Xbone
- Show your friends the Xbone
- Show your dog the Xbone
- Plug in the Xbone
- Have dust gathered by the Xbone
- Ask yourself why you bought an Xbone
- Ask the Xbone to open the pod bay doors
- Sell the Xbone
- Realise noone wants to buy your Xbone
- Sob in despair next to your Xbone
- Use the power cable to hang yourself (continental USA only)

So much fun!

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony will use this leverage pull an "xBox Live Gold" if not this generation at least next generation.

But at this point M$ is just killing themselves.

Birds fly, pigs oink, and Microsoft pay-gates something that Sony gives away for free.

Of course, unless edited, almost everything that gets posted from Xbone OR PS4 will be garbage.

I can easily do this with FRAPS on PC, this is not anything new to offer. People will just get PVR(?)s to record this.

Considering how MS (and now Sony) has suckered an entire generation of gamers to pay for MP that doesn't actually go the devs or any multiplayer servers, this isn't really much of a news...

Ha! In yo face recent anti-Xbone-hate threads. Looks like I am back on the train... actually, I really do not care all that much. Right now they have already shot off their foot and are repeatedly littering the bloody dirt with more bullets.

I really have no intention of ever getting one so it may take a little bit more for me to give a fuck...

<..>

Nope, still do not have any left to give.
Awww you beat me to it! Well I guess the only thing left to say is

It's incredible to see how Sony keeps looking better because Microsoft keeps kicking themselves down.

inb4 whining about Sony propaganda.

Also thats fine, I'm not getting an Xbox One and I'm not buying a PS4 until the launch issues have been discovered and resolved. Instead I'm investing in my new PC at long bloody last.

While I do indeed despise the Xbox One, there is one thing that has been announced that they have over the PS4:
it will support external video capture.
This means those with an HD PVR 2, Elgato, Roxio HD Pro, or AverMedia can still use their expensive cards on the machine. However, Sony has been tight-lipped about their caputre system so it is possible that they can announce the same thing as well, although in my case it doesn't matter because Hauppauge actually has designed an easy way to get around HDCP with their newer model of HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition and getting around HDCP encryption is really easy when it comes down to it. Whole reason why it's implemented in the first place is because it's required by law to have HDCP encryption placed on any device that can play Bluray movies; so apparently MS at some point found a way to have the Xbox One distinguish game from movie, which with how games are nowadays I wonder how they did that. XD

One other things is that the DVR for the Xbox One will only capture for 5 minutes at 720p and 30fps which I find odd.
Sony won't do it because they've learned that instant praise and adoration comes from not doing what Microsoft's doing.

"DRM? Subscription fees? Fees for multiplayer? No video capture without a subscription to a service? We don't have any of that! And we're $399!"

"Shut up and take my money!"
I guess you missed the memo where you are required to pay for Play Station Plus to play your games online on PS4, and you can still use a capture card without the subscription...

Personally I am still leaning toward the Xbone if I get a console at all in the next generation (Highly unlikely) and I would probably break one of my cardinal rules; never buy used games/equipment, to do so.. I just like the Xbone's exclusives more than the playstations, and the games are what all this is about. Not to mention that when you come right down to it, the PS4 and Xbone arent terribly different in their services based on what I actually use.
Except PS+ actually gives you stuff in return ie PS 1 classics by the truckload. Or something, information on these things has been such clusterfuck, I may just say fuck it and abandon gaming altogether.

Not like the servers that they use for the actual service need upkeep, maintenance and heaven forbid, updating.

OT: Microsoft have had the terrible issue when dealing with the Xbone in that they've shot themselves in the foot, but refuse to admit it, and the fanboys turn a blind eye to the big bloody stump attached to the Xbone. As presented here, all Sony does is go "we aren't doing this" and they're heralded as the second coming of Christ.

My only issue with Sony is that lumping us with all features besides actual online without PS+ is kind of a dick move, but considering they're keeping the benefits they have at the moment with PS+ and the fact that the move towards a premium subscription based service will negate some of the more unfortunate incidents with PSN this gen, it seems like a fair trade off.
