I got the sense that the point of this was to appeal to a broader audience, but the only people watching it were hardcore gamers. Nothing wrong with broadening the demo, but they completely forgot to bring any games to the table, beyond CoD, which has a solid base already. They could have seriously done better with this.

You must of missed the part where they said the E3 press conference will be showing off the Gaming portion of the console.
If they didn't have any games to show off with their gaming console they shouldn't have shown off their fucking gaming console.

First thoughts: I thought it was called the Xbox Infinity? What the hell? Think of the confusion this system will cause parents and grandparents who try to buy an Xbox "One" for Timmy's birthday. "I bought you the Xbox One." "No, Dad, this is the old Xbox!"

>>>Used Game Installation Fee

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Not gonna happen.

Nothing else at all matters to me about this console now. If Microsoft wants to treat their consumers like they don't own what they've bought, then I won't be buying. And here I thought Always Online was the worst move they'd make.

Hello, Sony, you're looking pretty sexy over there in that little black dress.
They're seriously going through with the used game fee? Well that's idiotic in more ways than one. And how would game rentals work then? It's going to be the same issue that people had with online passes at this rate.

Edit: The Xbox Support twitter account said that the "rumor" of a used game installation fee isn't true at all. Just throwing that out there.

4. ONLY 8 GB of RAM? Completely standard... 16 GB should have been the norm if you want to future-proof.

This. If the freaking laptop I bought over a year ago is as powerful as your 'next gen' console, you're doing something wrong...
Plus, those superfluous OS's aren't exactly going to help things run smoothly, are they?

Also: Pay to play used games? WTF. Bad. Bad bad bad bad.

That has to be the UGLIEST box I have ever seen. No charm. None. Just a big black brick.
MS seems to have a square aesthetic going on right now. It's fitting, because only squares are this dumb.

*badum ching*
I'ts something of a fitting analogy too. The Xbone is now without a doubt a square peg trying to fit into the round hole that is the desires of their customers.

Also, I can't help but wonder why 3 operating systems. It just seems excessive. I don't know much about coding, so I can't really comment on it with any weight, though I really don't get why they needed to choke up half of the advertised RAM with thrice as many operating systems as most PCs have which can do most of the same shit the Xbone can. If with a little bit of hassle. Though any patient man can find great things among the PC modders. Great things. And a lot of stupid shit that is mostly for vanity's sake but still fun as hell.

So yeah... looks like Microsoft are actually going to try and stamp down on used games sales.

Nice knowing you Microsoft. Looks like the three horse race just lost a horse.
That would be true if gamers actually rebelled against that kind of business practice, but you know they don't. Much like game-breaking DRM, gamers will eat it with a spoon. My prediction anyway.

Out of all the things to pick on...RAM? Really?

Why can't people understand that consoles don't run massive operating systems with countless processes running in the background? And even then, the only way I can genuinely finish all 8GB RAM on my PC is if I simultaneously run 2 games at the same time while having Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier loaded with projects. Yeah, I don't think a console is going to be doing that.

The most XBox One is doing is running one game at a time, while keeping an eye on movies/internet in the background. That's it. You can accomplish that with 2GB RAM on a PC, hell even 1GB is enough since the console OS is so lightweight. Phones can multitask just as well with far less RAM.
The only reasons MS gave it 8GB is to futureproof the hell out of it, it will be a LONG time before devs come even close to exhausting that memory. Current-gen consoles are running games like Crysis 3 and BF3 with 512mb RAM, that's how much devs can cut corners if need be.

Jeez.

Now continue ranting about the more important stuff :p

I was also very disappointed with the whole Microsoft/EA collaboration. This seems like two evil masterminds joining up to beat a superhero, though honestly I have no idea who the hero is in this scenario. Perhaps the player?
Well, we/the consumer have taken quite a beating this generation: drm, online pass, defective consoles, poorly supported consoles, extra fees, and all the other things you hear about on Jimquisition.

So far what I've heard is very light on actual info and they're being very careful about what exactly they're saying which leads me to believe that they're still testing the fan-waters to see how much they can get away with. It's still a we'll see situation.

Dear God when I came back from my final and went to youtube to watch the reveal I thought I maybe accidentally watched a parody of the reveal.

Glad Microsoft and Sony are saving me money this generation. I normally own all consoles + a nice PC but looks like my PC will have a little extra sexy cash. :)

I don't know if this has been said yet but no replaceable hard drive but then external hard drives are supported so get ready to pay 130 more bucks for another 6 games until you have to buy another.

This is a complete farce. There have been rumours about required connectivity for months. A smart company would spend that time to organise a united front for their announcement. But here we are, and apparently nobody at Microsoft has a clue what's going on with this console.

Not necessarily. I am betting that all accounts on the same console will have access to the installed games. Isn't that how it works now on the 360?

The game will be tied to your Live account and to the console.
Ahem... apparently not. If Wired's hands-on is anything to go by, they're actually going to charge other accounts to play the same game.
Did you misread something, or did you link the wrong article. It does not say anything of the sort, only that it has a one time install. That likely means it will be console linked, not account linked. At no point do they say account, they say owner, those are two completely separate words.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not with this practice at all, and I see it as a deal breaker, but I don't need to make stuff up to make it sound worse than it already makes itself look.

The Impression I get is that The fee only applies if you want to play the game without the disc in the tray, If that's the case they really have to charge.
Just looked further into it and it seems like Wired miscued that statement. I have a guess that we are going to see a system where you can fully install a game onto your account, and then it will be non-transferable, on the other hand it could mean mandatory installs and keys linked to your account, making it unplayable on other accounts/systems. Time will tell, I almost think that they are just feeling the waters still, trying to figure out how much of the rug they can pull from under us.

Charging the same though despite not having the costs of physical packaging and distribution (and wasn't there a tax on hard copies which is why new ones were $60 but pc versions were $50?). Charging the same for a digital copy though, despite the reduced cost of not having to actually print out a copy to give to me, is not cool. Looking at you Games Workshop.
The 50$ for PC 60$ for console thing is the console manufacturers cut of the sale.

Honestly, really hoping those 8 new IPs turn out to be duds too. I mean, what if they're spectacular? I don't want this system now.

Kind of a damp squib from what I've seen, though I'm at least pleased that LIVE on the 360 won't be being retired.

Personally, I think that they felt it necessary to advertise it's appeal as home decor says a lot about the kind of market they're going for.

So Microsoft is no longer really targeting 'core' gamers. *shrug*, just means there's a gap in the market to be filled; there are plenty of games from the last two generations that I have yet to play and enjoy, and that's additional to mah PC.

So they want the same space of the living room that the steambox is trying to take up. Interesting. I cant say Im enthused by the presentation but to be fair it was mostly buzz words with no meat to sink my teeth into. I didnt think I was going to get the Xbox before and now, Im sure Im not going to.

Interestingly I heard (and I cant confirm that) that Sony's stocks raised by 9% and Microsofts dropped 5% after this announcement

Wait a second, wouldn't the SmartGlass/Kinect combo, the 3 OSs, the movie functionality and other things use some of the ram to operate or at least be on standby for lower loading times?

You know what's really sad about the console? With the inclusion of the Windows 8 system, you're looking at a 1-2GB Usage of the console for just the BS that most of us on these forums don't care about. I don't even know what kind of required usage we're looking at for the Overly Complicated "Glue OS" which is just an overly complicated Windows 8/Windows 360 Switcher. It seems like when everything is all completed, you're looking at not much improvement...

You know, for a Gaming Console, we didn't see much Gaming during the announcement.

But it's going to be running three freaking operating systems at once and you can supposedly 'instantly' switch between all of them...

Plus games are only going to get more RAM (and everything else) hungry this generation.

But anyway, you do have a point, there are much more pressing things to ***** about discuss. Like having to pay to attach a game to more than one account. Da fuck? That would be like if a CD I owned could only be put in one iTunes library, or something :|

The console will have 8Gb of DDR3 RAM, however it has been confirmed that 3.5Gb of that RAM will be dedicated to the operating systems, so in reality the system only has 4.5Gb of usable system memory for games and applications. Compare that to the PS4's 8Gb of GDDR5 RAM, which is actually graphics card memory, there's no competition. Hell you can see by avatar that I love Microsoft, but this is just a mess.
