I have both and still play the Cube more. In fact I find it hard to recommend the current gen above any of the last gen consoles' substantial catalogue of games, unless you need HD graphics.

I won't repeat the lists above, but will say that if you don't play Metroid Prime you really are missing out.

Just buy the specific gamecube games that you want. Don't buy a bundle full of shit just because it's a good price.
I'm thinking along these lines now yeah. Just had a look at some of the stuff on ebay and most of them include at least 6 fifa games and a few "what are these?", meanwhile most of the above mentioned good games are priced at like £15. Not the huge saving I was expecting vs. new gen.

Likely gonna continue saving for my xbox but look more carefully at the GC back catalogue for future purchasing.

Thanks for the help everyone :)

I'd stick with the Gamecube, but then I'm completely biased. Some must play GC games are;

Super Smash Bros. Melee
Eternal Darkness
Metroid Prime*
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
F Zero GX
Resident Evil 4*
Pikmin 2*
Super Monkey Ball

* Also available on current gen consoles.
This is an okay start. Psyhonauts, Chibi-Robo, Prince of Persia Sands of Time Trilogy, Beyond Good and Evil*, Viewtiful Joe, Metroid Prime 2*, Pikmin 1*, Animal Crossing, Soul Caliber 2, Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Sonic Adventure 2, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Master Quest, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess*, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, Mega Man X Collection, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and just so much more.

Not: All of these are playable on Wii. If you want a next-gen console still and decided you wanted to stick with Nintendo, you'd have all of these games as playable, plus the Wii exclusives. And I mean the good ones, like The Last Story (fingers crossed...), not Wii Sports.
Psychonaut's isn't available for gamecube. I'd like to add Killer7, Spartan Total Warrior, PN03, Ikaruga, shikigami no shiro II, Capcom vs SNK 2 and Chaos Field.

Personally I would just buy a Wii since you want to avoid redudant consoles. That is unless you have a bunch of different tvs that you want to set up different consoles with.

All the gamecube games I like (TIMESPLITERS YEEEEEEEEE) you can get for x Box which can be played on 360. The game cube exclusives are usealy made by Nintendo, Capcom, or konami or saga, four of my most hated devs. My personal choice: go for the 360.

Very few xbox games can be played on the 360.
I will also add that both TimeSplitters games that were released on the xbox aren't among them.
EDIT: Which is annoying considering the console can actually IDENTIFY the disc by name.
Tried playing Fable: The Lost Chapters on my 360. Seemed to work, then after 10 minutes it complained about problems with a disc that works perfectly fine on the original.

As an Xbox 360-owner and ex-Wii owner I say get a PS3, I sure wish I did.

Ofcourse that also depends on what must plays for the Cube you missed. Lots of great games on that one imo.

Keep saving for the 360, there's a lot of good games on it. I would also like to tell you that LoZ: WindWaker, Super Mario Sunshine, both Pikmins and Luigis Mansion are all must plays.

Oh, whoops. My fault. I thought it was, didn't research it though.
