I actually like motion controls, it could be used well.
Like the Killzone2 sniper rifle, need to keep your Sixaxis steady to stop the scope from moving.

But I dont see it as being a must have for a console, its just a gimmick.
We're all gonna feel foolish if Microsoft unveils something totally different though :)
You have no idea how hard that is for me, I always have the urge to pull up my controller every time I take a shot from the sniper like it has recoil.

I've got to stop that, I could hurt someone...

I have to say this.

Not motion but GESTURE control! no controllers, crappy g sensors, just your body.

Think the eyetoy but much, much better, able to see in 3-d and with perfect clarity.

Based on thier recent aquisitions (i.e. 3DV systems )
This is a company that sepcialises in makeing these.

Go to thier gaming section and read it.

In 3DV Systems, we have taken a state-of-the-art next generation 3d imaging technology, originally used in advanced defense systems, and transformed it into an affordable consumer device that will revolutionize the way gaming is experienced. For the first time ever, you can use your body freely to control games, no wearables required, no limitations attached. Move your hand, leg, head or finger, in any direction and setting, moving quickly or making fine, minor movement - all these gestures are easily detected and understood by the system, creating a unique personalized and immersive gaming experience. This experience is complemented by the ability to combine your own 3D image inside the game scene, in real-time.
At E3 expect to see this:
This is the camera

Like I've said, if Microsoft really wants to improve their games, bring virtual reality back.
I mean really, the market for them is just sitting there. It's been dead for several years!

Microsoft, you have a controller that everyone has come to know and love... why would you try to change it, for something that has already failed.

The listing reads:

Are you interested in shipping innovative games that will change the way people play? If so, we want you to join our team to work on an amazing next-generation project, built from the ground up, in Microsoft Game Studios. We are building a NEW GAME STUDIO from the ground up that will revolutionize both WHAT you play and HOW you play. You have the chance to get in on the ground floor and work with professionals responsible for some of the industry's greatest innovations to date. (Emphasis in the original.)

Umm... yeah I don't think it would remotely qualify as a revolution to implement motion controls. I would think that it would involve something that you wouldn't be able to think of if they can make any claim to originality.

I mean, you are making the claim that because Microsoft is doing something that it is calling revolutionary, it must be motion controls, but ultimately if this development was motion controls, everything Microsoft said there was bull****.

Also, your claim on telepathy isn't all that far fetched.

If they're smart, their real plan is to have this ready for their next console release. They'll probably release it as an add-on, if only so they can get some real-world feedback from the market.

Nintendo made the Wii remote its central focus, to the exclusion of graphical advancements. Microsoft is probably going to release a motion sensitive controls and some games that use it, and then use the feedback to decide if and how heavily to emphasize motion control in their next console. Sony's probably thinking the same thing. This way, they can have all the benefits of motion control on the next console, without the drawbacks of over-emphasizing it and without having to sacrifice other developmental advances.

God I hope not. First they make me use those horrid avatars (which aren't Miis, of course /sarcasm), now they're going to make me be shaking my controller around in the air like a retard?

Why doesn't Microsoft just drop the 360 alltogether and start selling the Wii? It sounds like they'd be a lot happier that way.

But mind-controlled games, on the other hand, would be a lot more appealing...
because the 360 is actually a good console?
Exactly, so they should stop ruining it and trying to make it into a Wii.

If they did it better than the Wii I would be pleased, but I don't think they will do it at all, it would be a sign of weakness.

I KNEW I'd made the joke in the title of this thread before:

XboxWii60? PSWii? Anyone?
But really, who cares? It's a nice improvement on original tech, and Nintendo will likely get these guys to make them one too. I'm just interested to see what devs decide to do with this...

What I said then still applies, if this is what they're announcing. As long as they make the motion controls sharper than that of the Wii's, and get some good games with the feature out, I'll be ok with it. It's not like the Wii made an epic fail with the motion controls: it's just that they're sort of spotty at times, and I really can't stand that.

Sounds more like it's in development for a next-gen console. It wouldn't make sense for them to development motion sensitive controls for the 360, the console is too far into its life-cycle.

Show of hands. Who would laugh if Microsoft did show their version of the Wiimote, only for Nintendo to make a Wiimote2, which plugs right into your brain or something?

I'd actually applaud them for being a step ahead of the competition. Again.

Let's hope it's just a rumor though.

Meh. I suppose it would be an extra gimmick to show to your mum... But would I ever use it? No.

Well, PS3 has sixaxis but everyone hates that.

Anyway, I really hope this doesn't happen, these things have turned into gimmicks.
I don't hate it...

Well anyway, the "emphasis on the original" kind of disproves the rumours, Nintendo and Sony already have motion-sensing controls. I'd also like to say that if done right then Sixaxis is great, but unfortunately on multiplatform releases it's always badly done and clumsy. Microsoft should be wary of lazy devs...

Flower, flOw ever heard of them? Those games wouldn't be possible without the sixaxis, not not everyone hates it.

On Topic: I see this as a lack of creativity for Microsoft having to copy paste like this. My hopes is they don't go through with this.
How is flow not possible without sixaxis? I have it on PSP.

Someone link this to MS, so they can see the general consensus.

Motion sensing controls... interesting for a bit, but can't hope to match the precision of a joypad, and MS, you're not competing with Nintendo, you're competing with Sony, if you want to compete with the Wii, release a new console, trying to head to the middle ground just means you'll be not as good as either.

Personally I'd quite like a Wii if I could afford, but as a gamer I'll be getting a 360 first, as the games appeal to me more than the Ps3 selection.

I just don't see 360 owners shelling out $50 for a new controller, and another $50 for a new to use it on this far into the consoles life, unless it can really be as enjoyable as Guitar Hero was the first time around.

GH1 was probably the only time I've paid for a special controller and been happy about it.
