My school decided to block Steam on the dorm servers now....
Excuse me I must commit nuclear war on the world for this outrage.

Was thinking the same thing but anything is better than nothing and considering the lack of demos for PC as of late I'm happy to get a bit of hands on. Was there a way to take those last 2 aliens alive? I heard the scientist say we should but when I checked my soldiers for a stun attack that I saw in a few previews I couldn't find it.

I don't think you can take them alive. For later on in the game I think.

Saw this piece of news and hurried to start downloading. On the store page for Enemy Unknown it now says that the game will unlock October 11th instead of the 9th like it used to, hope it's some kind of error...
Depends where you live... if you're an American (and therefore, required by law to pretend to be different from everybody else) you can have it on the 9th, 'cause everybody knows that American's take time off work for games.

If you live anywhere else, you can pick it up after the 11th so that it doesn't impact the work-week, like normal folks.

:p

Just beat it...damn that great! I told myself that Borderlands 2 would be my last new game for a while but that was just too damn good! I never played the first but it was just amazing ordering my heavy weapons guy to advance under the cover of the sniper while my medic patched up my close quaters soldier. I can really see how people become attached to their soldiers in the first since I almost had a heart attack when that suprise attack nearly killed my sniper. I really gotta say I'm severly tempted to preorder now which I supose is the main reason you have demos.

echhhhh

If that is what the game looks like than it'll be a letdown. Tac map that is just a long corridor. Enemy is in front. Go. Kill.

Just great. ;/

Oh my God oh my God oh my God!

YES! Something to kill the time until release :D, I was getting a little sick of having to search all over the Youtube for some gameplay videos.

I tried downloading it but it doesn't seem to be working. Shame.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Not a long demo, and doesn't really give you much of a feel for the game (at least, based on comparison to the gameplay video's I've seen).

That said... awesome... a company that puts out a demo for their game, instead of expecting you to pay £35 for a reskin of last year's game. Hell yes... If I hadn't already pre-ordered, I sure would now!

Game looks wicked fun.

My hype for this game has reached fanatical levels, and I literally could not stop squeeing until I had the demo downloaded and played through :) I was in the middle of a Borderlands 2 session, too! I got it this morning in the mail, but when the notification turned up announcing a demo for XCOM had been released, I couldn't focus on anything else!

It's a shame the demo was so incredibly short, but my hype levels remain unchanged :) The camera controls were a bit clunky and console:ish, but everything else seemed to be working fine.

Oh yes, btw.. speaking of consoles...

I just finished watching a livestream event over at gamespot, and Jake Solomon has confirmed that there will indeed be a demo for consoles showing up as well. No timeframe given, but my guess would be soon?.

Be advised, if you've already seen the hour-long gameplay demonstrations, this demo is hardly worth your time.

One, honestly kinda annoying, tutorial mission, and a choice of two different others after that.
Plus, you get to meet some of the home-base people who talk to you a bit.

The missions are easy, I will assume that it's locked to Easy or Normal difficulty.

If you have no idea how the game plays, then by all means, try it out.

But otherwise, it's mostly just a waste of time.

Demo wasn't worth the 40 minutes of download time though. Much too short, with zero new information to people who have kept an eye on the game over the last month or two.

Disclaimer: Yes, I already preordered it, and I fully expect to love the actual game.

Cool this will allow me to see wherever my PC will run it, if not then its the PS3 version for me.

I'd rather the pc but I only have the laptop at the minute

Man I would so be on this if Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2 didn't just come out. It's just that I have this thing where I can't play more than one game at a time. I find when I stop playing a game I usually don't pick it back up again, or at least for a long time.

I watched most of the gameplay videos and it was torture watching them playing and losing men with crappy tactics. I always said I could do better and now I have a chance to prove it so I would say the demo is definetly worth it.

Hah. I actually felt some stress thinking, "I'll never be able to live it down if I lose someone on this easy god damn mission."

I didn't, though. Dignity intactness: intact.

Honestly, the game is locked to baby-mode. It's practically impossible to fail.

It may have come off a little strong. I meant it mostly as a relief for the people who couldn't seem to start the download.

I would have loved to play some of the demo missions that we've seen in the gameplay vids, that would have been awesome, but what we're handed here is... well, suffice it to say that it leaves a whole lot to be desired.

Again, I've already bought the game, and I'm sure I'll be more than happy with it once it releases, but frankly I find this demo to be excessively underwhelming, especially seeing as how we know that better demos have been playable for a long time, provided you had press credentials.

I see no reason why they'd limit a public demo so much, both in terms of map size, feature-pallet and enemy variety.

Most of all, I guess I'm just severely disappointed. I admit I expected at least double the content, especially considering the (relatively) enormous download size.

Found this on the Steam forums. You can indeed change the difficulty. Posted by a user by the name of FirelanderX

"Credit goes to cmfreak on the 2k Forums: http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?139306-How-to-change-Difficulty-Settings-here

1. Go to Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown-Demo\Engine\Config

2. Open "BaseGame.ini" with notepad

3. Change GameDifficulty=+x.0, where the x is value between 0-3 (0 being the easiest, 3 being the hardest)

Enjoy!"

Already tried it and yeah the demo is locked on easy meaning 0.

Tried on 2(Classic) and 3(Impossible) managed to have my sniper killed on the latter.
