I love xkcd, and it's one of the best (and funniest) webcomics around.

However, what I don't get is the kind of person who says that he sucks because he doesn't dumb it down for them. In my opinion, understand or GTFO.

I'm really confusing by around half of these... What are the red spider ones about?!?
They are coming; we must be ready to counter them!

I don't even GET xkcd.
I read all of them and only a couple were remotely funny.
That's why the forum is filled with geniuses.
And I do mean that.
I love XKCD though. I get most of the jokes, but never the math ones.
Same here, I love all of them but the math ones.

Math is just evil. If math was a person, he'd pee on your floor and eat all of your food and then go make out with your lady.
Like a dog? Well, except for the last part, but he could lick her I guess...

I discovered xkcd just after Christmas, and ended up reading all of them from beginning to end. I get most of the science and math, although I admit that I have had to ask a friend on some of the programming jokes. Different people find different things funny, so while I love xkcd, its no surprise that it doesn't appeal to everyone. I mean, I'll bet that there is even some poor soul out there who doesn't think Yahtzee is funny.

Nah, who am I kidding?

It's like most webcomics, it either clicks or it doesn't. However for me it really clicks! I love the maths humour, and I just like the feel of the whole thing. But then I just generally click with most things...

It's very smart humor, but very funny too. There are the occasional ones for everyone, and also the occasional uber-math ones as well. I personally have made XKCD part of my regular website rotation, and when I fisrt discovered it I read almost all of them by clicking the random button.

I don't think I got it. Some were somewhat entertaining for random doodles or sketches or whatever, but I wouldn't call it genius. It seems several of you would disagree with that. Care to enlighten me?

...Well, yes. But dogs don't know what they're doing. MATH DOES.
However I do not know what it is doing.
So, a sentient....dog...man? And I don't know what it is doing either.

This one always makes me lol. Mainly because I'm a Comp Sci student, and my first Comp Sci teacher told us (and regularly reminded us) to never ever use goto.

Here are some really good recent ones. The one at the bottom still cracks me up. To the naysayers: how are these not funny?

The "Base System" comic is very good. It gets points because it's an elaborate diagram illustrating what's supposed to be a simple metaphor, and even more points because it actually communicates something interesting.

The "Flow Charts" comic is pretty good, too, though it communicates far less.

The "Windows 7" comic isn't very good. It just restates an annoyingly overdone geek trope. Blah, blah, Vista sucks, we get it. I find it mildly amusing, but it's no better than the random bullshit I use to fill dead space in a conversation. If you ran into a webcomic where all of the strips were like this one, it wouldn't be worth reading (if it was also poorly-drawn, ancient, and stuck up its own ass, that webcomic would be called "User Friendly").

The "I'm An Idiot" comic is cute but not funny, in the way that most XKCD is (and tries to be) cute but not actually very funny.

What these illustrate is that, overall, Randall Munroe does one very good strip every week or two. The rest are just filler. That makes his comic significantly better than most. I don't think it deserves the geek worship it receives -- particularly because of the way it plays up the easy geek jokes too often.

I see your point. Yeah, it's hit and miss, but it has quite a few gems.

Anyone that doesn't 'get' xkcd, or doesn't find it funny, is likely very stupid.

xkcd is the best comic on the internet, bar none. Everyone else can go back to reading AltCtrlDel or that kind of monotonous bullshit.

It's an awesome comic. I'm glad I'm mathematically/scientifically knowledged enough to understand them.

i wouldnt go that far as there is one comic that does match up with it. Subnormality

you wont laugh as hard but they are equally smart. (XKCD is more humorous and nerdy)

I could sum it up by saying some are truely funny, some are just true and so are observational humour and some involve too much maths for me to get it.

Example of observational humour:

A lot of jokes I don't find funny and the occasional whiny one about his ex girlfriend or something. A full and resounding "meh".
Munroe's particular take on "romance" ticks me off, too.

At the same time, this one about "nice guys" [http://xkcd.com/513/] is pure gold -- not so much for the humor as for the, umm, educational value.

The art in xkcd is the best I've ever seen!

(I'm still not sure if this is sarcasm or not, please bear with me)
