I dare not bad mouth him as i love the stuff he does, and i am well aware that in his game reviews, some of the stuff he says is just for humour and that even he is aware that its more interesting and humorous when you just talk shit about the game but have you ever found a game where everything he has said in a review was true?

I made the fatal mistake of believing he was exaggerating the Sonic Unleashed Review but i must say that everything he said was exactly how it was....

any of your stories?

He doesn't just make shit up =P Most of what he says is based in truth, even if it's exaggerated.

I disaprove of how he bashes Halo 3 without giving any credible reason, the story seemed basic to him as he did not play the backstory, the gameplay was average only because he didn't realise that the first Halo revolutionised the formula, and because he only played one part of it he has no right to complain about how the game had 'so little'

That said I find the man to be very funny and I respect him.

Saitns Row 2 was pretty much as sweet as yahtzee said. But I gues it doesn´t count because he said that you´d get bored with the minigames and that never happened to me.

Please, stop making Yahtzee threads, like someone recently said, you're preaching to the converted. Talk about him on other sites, it will bring more people here.

He is payed to badmouth games. You can see from the popularity of certain reviews, that when he injects actual real venom into his comments on games then the viewing figures are a lot higher than say, if he praises a game.

As such, well hes taken to bad mouthing everything in sight regardless of likes or dislikes, which is showing. Meanwhile he invests the paycheck elsewhere.

Of course, this is my opinion alone. Please don't be offended.

I have played a few of the games he has review (some games before I saw he review, some after) and I can say I agree with most of what he says. I have (almost) never found that he makes shit up. If he exaggerates it is very little or making a simile.

I only disagreed with him on Mirror's edge. That was a fun game, flawed, but not the terrible game he painted.

It depends on how pessimistic and cynical you are, I suppose. I agree with him for the most part but there are quite a few times i've disagreed with him.

I liked Mirrors Edge.

AND I HATED PSYCHONAUTS, YEAH, EAT THAT.

I don't really take him THAT seriously, but his reviews are still fun to watch nonetheless. And Dead Space was pretty good despite him badmouthing it as repetitive, repetitive, and repetitive.

Not wanting or usurp the topic too much, lets have a look at this.

Should he have to? Is he wrong to expect a game to have a plot that is able to stand on its own two feet?

So you're saying Bungie "revolutionised" the formula to have average gameplay. I don't understand; surely average is still average, even if you get there first.
Vrex360 said:

I would hazard a guess and suggest that he is refering to 'so little' in terms of variety. From what I can remember, its pretty much all 'run and gun', with a few vehicle sections to break things up. The variety of locations is pretty varied, but gameplay? I don't want to get too deep here or the fanboys will come hunting for blood, but I can see why someone with a cynical point of view could see it as pretty shallow.

EDIT: And Indigo_Dingo gets there first by 1 minute :)

While I find his criticism usually right, he does seem to take it too far at times.
As Gilbert Godfried once said, "We're comedians. We're supposed to take it too far."

I don't have time or money to waste on crappy games. I really appreciate his comments regarding how he doesn't do well with some kinds of games (i.e. fighting games) since it puts everything he has to say in perspective. His biting sarcastic reviews have saved me both time and money and that's about the best a reviewer can do for an audience. Plus, he's probably a comedian first and reviewer second so it doesn't hurt that he's usually funny as hell.

I think he summed up Prince of Persia (the new one) very well indeed. =) And Zelda, Phantom Hourglass. Everyone got very excited about that game, but I coudldn't stand the pointless repetition of the stealth dungeon sections...Yahtzee was right on the money with that one...

Though he does exaggerate, he doesn't fabricate, is what i've found. The Bioshock and STALKER: Clear Sky reviews are ones I agreed with particularly.

He gets his best ratings on bad-mouthing games which have received widespread good reviews and yet are not enjoyed by gamers that much - Biosh*$k and GTA4 for example.

A lot of people take his exaggerations as serious points presumably because they have no sense of humour. What I like about Yahtzee is that his reviews are subjective, on many occasions he has suggested that other people may enjoy the games he tears apart. It's a personal thing. I bought Psychonauts but it wasn't really my kind of game, fair enough, but I tried. I don't take his word as gospel and will not spam anyone for saying they think he is wrong.

I liked FarCry 2 but yes I did find it a bit bland and tiresome after a while. A lot of the games he reviews are console titles and I through some quirk of fate am one of the "PC gaming master race" (as he calls us) and therefore haven't played said games but I do find when he branches out and starts highlights aspects of gameplay he doesn't like I tend to look back on games I've played and think "Yeah, that was an irritating part of gameplay" so in general I must say that I find his opinion while gloriously laden with hyperbole, is pretty much accurate (depending of course on your level of fanboydom for a particular series). I also find that my general view of people aligns with his.

Yeah, he's right about most stuff. Before I listened to him, prince of persia and portal were two of my absolute favourite games so I think we have similar tastes so his reviews are quite useful to me. SSBB was better than he said it was though.

I really do find yahtzee's videos to be well researched and thought out. Yes all criticisms are personal opinions but yahtzee does incredibly well with being as accurate as possible. I know all of my friends who own Dead Space love the game to death, but really I do take yahtzee's stance on the game as being "startling" and not nessicarily "scary". Though I did get Spore before Yahtzee put up his review on the game and truth be told, there's an achievement in the game to get your creature from cell to space stage in one sitting and it's not a really hard achievement to obtain. Even after loving the game as much as I did for about the week and a half that I owned it, yeah yahtzee's completely on the ball with that one too.

Another game that I partially agree with him on is SSBB, I pretty much refuse to play this game at parties because of the amount of "Those guys" that insist upon playing SSBB despite the fact that most of us that don't own a Wii don't want to play a game for 5hours straight if we're not going to enjoy it. Though the part that I don't agree with is when he insists that it's about as easy as smashing your face against the controler and winning games. I've never had a fight end so easily for me, but then again it all of "That guy"s that actually WANT to play SSBB.

Also I hate Halo. The difficulty between story mode and multiplayer jumps so vastly that you'll feel like you've got a beat on playing the game in story mode because the developers made them so easy. I remember playing Halo 2 when I was sick one day on a friend's Xbox that he let me borrow one day though the problem was it didn't even keep me entertained long enough to get better, and when I decided to log into a game server and got my ass handed to me without so much as 3 kills. Really Halo to me is just imbalanced in terms of play styles, though this may be because that it's a console FPS and for those of you who've gotten used to playing FPSs on PCs then trying to manuver in Halo is like playing a Space Marine who's come out of Space retirement and hasn't gotten quite in shape again.

Again like my opinions are above Yahtzee's videos are really his opinions, though they are very well thought out opinions.
