Yale Developing $3.9 Million Anti-Drug, Alcohol and Sex Game

It's just like when the "cool, non smoking" crowd decided showed up at my school trying to teach children "good values" and how smoking will kill you even if you have JUST ONE cigar! They then proceeded to show pictures of a mans cancer growing out of his back with a comment saying "this can happen to you if you smoke." Ahh, the good old days of morons trying to scare people by just plain lying and distorting facts.

Let's just hope this "game" is going to actually be genuine when it comes to facts and it won't be the generic "I'm a good kid and I never touch alcohol and drugs and I always study but these bad mean kids are trying to make me distort my ways!"

AHHH *head explodes*, Its like 1984 just brainwash the youth , fill them with slogans and stuff them with statstices and numbers that mean nothing. Which they will have in the game "100000000 people die ever day from drugs" there going to say, and "drugs are bad".

Wait a moment...

"7.1 percent of high school students report having had sex before the age of 13."

...Am I the only one who thinks they might be lying about that?
See what I mean?

Just give the kids World of Warcraft, they won't have the time for drugs, sex or alcohol.

I... don't know what to say.

Does anyone honestly believe that these things work, or do they just like to keep themselves busy and be able to make Yale look better?
I believe that they could work. The problem is that all of these "message" games are unwilling to show anything unpleasant or shocking to children. So they caution against behaviors while keeping a blinder on.

It's like this, it's fairly easy to find plenty of material today glorifying the drug trade, like Grand Theft Auto games and the like, as well as stuff with people partying and doing lines of cokes from between a woman's breasts, etc...

On the other hand it's very difficult to find much material (though it does exist) with some desperate brain-fried coke whore, covered with marks, dying in her own puke in an alleyway. Sure, there are entire sections of cities full of degenerate, wasted junkies who have been used up and spit out by the drug trade, but we protect our darling children from that, we don't show them what those of us who support the anti-drug movement see.

Not to mention issues like some dude getting stoned and killing someone with his car. Or someone totally frying their brain on acid.

With sex of course, there are of course the moral issues of abortion which a kid shouldn't have to worry about (and isn't equipped for). Not to mention the life altering effects of having a child you can't support.

In the case of sex in paticular, sex between 13-14 is a problem, but I am a big supporter of sex education and distributing birth control/condoms in school. I've gone into that before.

At any rate, I think you COULD make a game that would work, but chances are it would involve material that would get it an "M" rating by most people's standards, which is exactly the problem. If I was going to educate kids about drugs, my product would probably be a lot like the "Condemned" games in atmosphere, minus the supernatural and combat.

Once while working security at Foxwoods we had a concert, I think it might have been Ginuwine, it's been a while. At any rate one of the things that sticks in my mind was a girl who ODed during the concert, was brought out into the hallway over by the food court through a side door to await EMTs and died in her own vomit. I was there holding up a sheet for privacy from the passing crowd (due to the need to get her out ASAP) as she died.

I was against drugs before that, but that's the kind of cr@p I think people need to see or be a part of to REALLY get the right idea.

I'm just ashamed that I don't have a wet trout long enough to slap the entire population of Yale with it.

File this under 'games that suck when you're high'

But if they do make this 'game', they need to make sure to include a level where the girl offers you a joint and a hook-up. If you can resist that, you could resist just about anything. SPOILER ALERT: No high-school boy could resist that.

"Going to take drugs, drink alcohol or have sex? THEN EVERYBODY WILL HATE YOU AND YOU WILL ACCOMPLISH NOTHING!"

Jesus fuck guys, this is what makes kids curious about the things in the first place.

Just because it is a video game, doesn't mean they're going to lap it up. It's takes a lot to make a game, and these people making this don't really know what people want in games.

And games don't need to have drugs, alchhol, and sex to be good, either.

this is $3.9 mil down the drain.

Yes, this will really persuade kids not to do drugs, drink alcohol or have sex because games have just that much influence on kids. [/sarcasm]

This simply won't sell.

We don't need a game to attempt to do what bad parents can't.
Well, bad parents already have video games baby sit their kids...

I can see this selling well. Anything for a garbage parent to feel any kind of effectiveness in raising their little shits.

The only way a videogame is going to keep me from ever going out of the house to get my drugs/booze/sex is if the game itself gives me a blowjob while playing it.

Way to waste nearly 4 million dollars on something that will fail so epically it deserves a face palm.

(Although president Obama spends 4 million dollars about every hour.)
