Looks like I'll be getting it on PS4, then... well, not that my PC could run it anyway, so doesn't make that much difference to me.

PC gamers go meh?

I usually get games on console, but I can't help but actually like this. More exclusives on Epic, fewer exclusives on Steam, maybe Valve will try to create its own games again.*

Yay?

*Yes, technically they never stopped, but "technically" is the key word.

I used to be totally loyal to Steam and pro-Valve. Now, I'm kind of happy seeing Epic getting exclusives and doing well. I doubt anything could get Valve back into game development, but even if some more competition means that Steam will actually start curating its library instead of being the sewage fountain they currently are it would be a positive step. I signed up to epic just to get Subnautica for free. Now I have a couple of the other games they have given away, have bought one, and plan to buy several more. Starting up Steam has gone from a potential shopping experience to just the frontend for my game library. If I buy Outer Worlds, it will probably be on Epic, even though so far I'm planning on waiting for a sale or price drop.

By the way, I'm thinking of getting My Time at Portia on Epic. Has anyone played it, is it any good?

Well this won't end well. I have no interest in the game, but let's say if I wasn't PC person that was interested in the game, I would be very pissed off right now.

I always felt it would be nice if Steam had some healthy competition because, let's be honest, they've become pretty complacent but I was thinking that that competition would mean that something more user friendly with greater quality would come along and not just a platform that hold exclusives hostage. But then, why would anything nice ever happen?

It's still an obsidian game, it'll take a good 12 month for most of the bug to be ironed out. I can wait (if I get desperate I can always grab a cracked version and just buy it once it hit steam).

I don't mind this. I really dont.

Yes, it is frustrating that I have yet another launcher to keep track of, but at the same time, I am glad that Steam has an actual competitor now, more than just EA jumping ship to sell their own games.

The only reason why the Epic store is getting so much traction, is because Steam is still being complacent.

Hopefully this prompts some kind of action from Steam, more than just saying how "unfair" it is.

Sorry Steam, you just got out-business'd.

I'm curious as well. It looks really nice and I'm interested in Satisfactory as well. Theres decent stuff coming.

To the topic: eh. It would piss me off if we were talking Bloodborne where I have to buy a PS4 if I ever want to play it, but this is an account. Its not difficult or intrusive to have Epic, Steam, GOG, Humble and so forth on my comp all the time anyway. And at least the Epic store doesn't look and load like a decade old piece of browser crap.

Don't get me wrong, steam did a good job for a long time, but anyone who uses updating software at work or home is aware of how bad looking, poorly optimized and poorly interfaced steam is compared to anything modern. Anything that gives valve a kick in the ass to make steam less crap is a good thing. They have been riding the wave for way too long, and at this stage all the multitudes of barely functioning additions to steam really just highlight its slow transformation into bloatware with games attached.

I hated GFWL and the Ubisoft store, but I totally understand not wanting steam as your frontend.

You must be buying a lot of shit games to have your steam store be such a sewage fountain. I mean I don't see any of that crap on my steam store. This is totally worth trying to fuck up the pc gaming experience. Instead of trying to make a better service, epic is doing this in the most underhanded way they can. Fuck epic.

This is good.

Valve needs to clean up steam. Indie developers are migrating to the Nintendo switch. AAA devs are migrating to Epic store.

Valve needs to get their shit together. But their reluctance to act make me think Valve deserves to lose their big developpers.

Also Valve takes a 30% cut of sales. No wonder people are leaving.

Alright, look, I get that Valve needs some good competition to motivate them to clean up their act, but Epic is not it. Epic is doing worse things than Steam, ripping off Steam by stealing private data from it, invading your privacy with it, and having developers lie to you by promising their games on Steam only to nix em last second for some BS exclusives.

If you want to know what healthy competition with Steam is, look at GoG. Epic is just making things worse and will more likely cause Steam to worsen themselves, not better.

Epic Game store sucks and wont be the heroes some of you seem to think it will be.

This is like thinking EA will make Activision a better company, it wont.

I am glad I am not alone writing off the Epic Store for good reasons, though I worry that the petty reasons will weaken the legitimate arguments against the Epic Store.

I do not mind having more launchers, though of all of them out there GOG Galaxy is the only one that I feel is not shit (this includes Steam). I would love for devs to get a better cut of their game's revenue, though it is a give and take as you need to provide a good deal for your customers in order for them to support your game.

A launcher that was caught harvesting data from another program without your knowledge or consent, and subverting the official way to ask for and obtain that data using a tactic that malware usually uses, is not a good deal. It may just be steam data some may argue, the point is that they are showing they have no issues extracting any data in the shadiest way.

I wanted to believe in the Epic Game Store, but I'm slowly losing my patience with it constantly yanking the carpet out from underneath me.

My steam front page is the same recent releases as anyone elses, the problem lies in trying to search for anything and having to wade through 10 pages of knockoffs, asset flips, and imitators. At this point, if a storefront is willing to actually determine what content they are willing to sell by evaluating each title's merits... they are a better storefront better than Steam. And I don't care what tactics Epic uses to try and undermine Steam... at this point Steam has earned it by sheer indifference. They don't care about the customer, I don't care about their success or failure.

I think the thing that gets me is that it was advertised as being available on Steam, and now that it won't be at launch, they're just offering refunds. Whoopsies! Guess we treated our backers like no-risk loans.
I forget which dev it was, but one of them said something to the effect of 'Even if we have to refund 100% of purchased copies, we'd still be in the black' meaning Epic is paying them so much money they essentially don't have to release the game to turn a profit.

and I'm really not comfortable with devs that crowdfund changing the platforms available AFTER the funding is successful and AFTER Epic has chosen to give them big-boy money and the backers can open wide, or get the fuck our, money is on the dresser.

Its one thing to compete with Steam. Its another to bulldoze over the customers and expect them to be cool with it. If you want to compete, how about taking a fucking risk Epic and commission a game or two, instead of just buying ones customers have already paid for.

I think you might just not be using search right then, I have no trouble finding results. But Im getting more and more pissed at epic, to the point where I think valve should start swinging their dick around and forcing games to be exclusive to them. If epic are going to be douche bags then valve should probably be too.

Minor pount of contention - epic isn't really forcing any of the game makers to go with them, they're BRIBING them with bigger cuts of the sale price. That isn't a bad thing, and neither would valve doing it right back. More money in developer/producer pockets means more games/higher quality/more content for the consumer. And hopefully fewer instances of game programmers subsisting on wheatabix.

There are plenty of reasonable things to hate epic for, but not throwing devs over a barrel (or using a smaller barrel at least) shouldn't be one.

So basically, Epic can't truly compete by offering a decent service to gamers, so they have to resort to buying exclusive rights to aggressively force gamers to use their shitty platform. I'd rather buy it on Microsoft's shitty Store than use Epic. In fact, this shit has cemented my decision to never touch their fuckin' Store. I'm actually pretty pissed right now and quite surprised by my own reaction to this news.
