I was kinda interested in Destiny if and when it comes out on PC, but now really whats the point. Also i might be wrong but didnt you have a game for a year at least before any talk of a squeal....or am i just showing my age ? Also so if Destiny is a 10 year game when are they planning on this coming out ? 10 years from now ? or are they going to bring it out and pretty much kill all the community of the 1st. I dont know this is just so stupid.

People are surprised? Really?

Activision spends millions of dollars in Bungie and a new, decades-spanning IP, and people are surprised there are plans for a sequel? If this were another company, it would have been a no-brainer. In the case of Activision is just plain obvious.

Ok, it is weird that they are already talking about a sequel so early instead of discussing more DLC and expansions (and keeping the sequel behind closed doors), but I would be overly naive to think they didn't plan for sequels before the first game was even announced.

Maybe Warwick Davis, to keep the dwarf actor playing a floating robot pattern going.

Destiny has always been planned to be a 4 game, 4 expansion series. (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/sep/15/destiny-the-next-ten-years)

The sequels are supposed to fit into the shared universe MMO aspect.
Oh jeez, That's not the milking free to play MMO's are known for. That isn't even squeezing orange juice and tossing the lumpy once-fruit in the trash. That is taking all the oranges and cows excited for Bungie's first post Halo game, shoving them in a giant blender, and leaving in on overnight. Activision wants a guarantee they'll get that half a billion dollars back, as soon as possible too. And, considering the lukewarm reception Destiny is getting, they might have put their investment in even more risk by making players buy another $60 game every 2.5 years.

Other MMOs have vastly updated or completely changed themselves with expansion packs and free patches. They could have made major DLC every few months, and maybe release one more game as a last resort. If they do go the multi-game route, Bungie better knock this one out of the park.

And yet there are so many great games, much more deserving of a sequel than this trollop, that have no chance at one.
I'll always be waiting for another Dragon's Dogma... <3

(I just learned that trollop basically means 'slut', which is weird because I've only ever heard it used to describe inanimate objects...)

That's nice

Meanwhile i'll just keep playing Warframe, the game Destiny wishes it was and ended up being an inferior version of. Hope Destiny fans have a lot of spare cash ready.

Activision gonna Activision.

Whoever is really surprised by this has not been paying attention. Like someone else said, CoD's popularity is waning, this is going to be their new cash cow and they will milk this until it produces only dust. The only difference I see is that Destiny stumbled right out of the gate, so unless the sequel is friggin amazing, I dont see the IP having the same amount of staying power as CoD.

It kills me though that the only reason anybody gave two shits about Destiny in the first place is because its from Bungie. If it was made by almost anybody else, there wouldnt have even been half the hype.

Hmm... I bought Destiny day one on the strength of the beta, and in hope that it would be a lot bigger and more complex than the beta let on.

I played it for a couple of weeks after launch, and while I was impressed by the craftsmanship and production values put into the game (the gun-play is very good...), it didn't hook me or even inspire me at all to keep playing. I haven't picked up since or even wanted to play, so unless I hear very, very, VERY good things about Destiny 2, I'm going to pass - I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking this too.

That said, I've not bought (or otherwise "acquired") a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare, simply out of principle, so perhaps I'm not part of the demographic Activision is aiming at here.

Maybe next time they'll remember to provide an actual story, with actual characters and..*snickers* oh who the fuck am I kidding? Nobody gives a shit about that so much as playing the 11th reiteration of Halo's blandness; only this time, with the soul-crushing tedium of MMO grind to make things even MORE bland and mind-bogglingly dull.

Maybe someone else can divine an allegory of the entire experience (remember: games are ART!) just to give it a point or purpose beyond mindless consumerism, because Destiny sure didn't.

I still laugh how Bungie, a company that had to sell its soul to microsoft just to survive, immediately spun around after being freed and resold their souls to activision.

Its a good thing they cut all that content out of the game so they can sell to us later. Now they can focus on making the sequel.... wait a minute.

If this is a separate game I'll immediately cut losses and curse their names. If it's an expansion where my character still exists then I'll have a more complex journey to consider. But the way things look, they created the framework for an amazing experience without including the experience and I have no faith it'll be there in the future.

It's a shame because the lore is rich and the game is stunning.

So, uh...

What about all that rigamarole about "We're spending half a billion dollars on Destiny because we're building an infrastructure to support the game for at least the next decade. We're showing gamers that we care enough about them and this new MMO to plan out our content for years to come."

Was that just complete and utter bullshit Acti-Blizzard? Were you making false promises you had no intention on keeping? That can't be true, right? You'd NEVER lie so blatantly to us, would you?

Of course not...

You can complete the main campaign in 15 hours. And then you spend the next 200 hours grinding out your light levels.

I believe the ment Destiny the IP had a ten year plan, not Destiny the game, which will be supported until the sequels release...next year

But, why? The thing about MMO's (shut up it is), is that, with continued promotion and the occasional expansion, you can make money off one game for years without needing to put both the time and resources into a full sequel.

This doesn't even seem like a very good business decision, let alone what anyone was actually asking for.

Even that article has them commenting that we should not necessarily expect 4 games and 4 expansions.

To say this has "always" been the plan is incorrect.

I thought shooting into dark caves was the main campaign.

Hahaha. But of course, it's Activision. Flogging mediocre sequels instead of fixing what's wrong with the current title is their modus operandum.

Don't care. The current game has a ton of flaws that apparently aren't a flaws, they're features so fuck me, I guess. I was drawn in by the promise of a good story, but instead I got a lot of people talking around me and backstory that I had to get onto the internet to read. And if that DLC coming next month is an example [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.864087-Activision-Releases-Date-and-Details-for-Destinys-The-Dark-Below#21565268] of the "expansion packs" we'll be getting, then I don't see the point.
