Damn. Ninja'd. Fuckin' epic, though xDZay-el said:Go around singing "Princes of the Universe" and chuckle at anyone trying to chuck a sword through by neck.
Because then you would live to see them all die off, and then the next batch of friends, ad nauseum. Forming strong bonds to people only to have them die is tragic, and having it happen over and over would be emotionally devastating. You would either need to give up on those bonds, and lose a large part of what makes you human (as we are social creatures), or limit yourself to a single human experience.Vausch said:I could just be an emotionally stunted person but why is this always the conclusion immortal scenarios come to? I mean yes I'd hate to see my friends die but there's nothing stopping you from making new friends.DLlama said:Honestly, I would live my life without fear of death, take more risks; I would be more outgoing. However, when I reach to age of 100, I will destroy my self. Everyone I grew up with will be on their way out or are already dead. As I see it, immortality won't be too fun without any one to share it with.
depends what kind of person you were I think. Some would cope quite well I think, especially "loner" types who don't have many social links anchoring them to a time period anyway. Others wouldn't handle it at all...unabomberman said:That's a fairly optimistic way of looking at things, but I just don't think so. We have cases where people are world weary already. That is a real phenomenon where folk just kinda grow tired with everything and it is not necessarily linked to depression--but anyways, now, pile immortality on top of that, and what do are likely to get, eventually?Eldarion said:There is way to much out there to experience in one lifetime. To much to do and see. Even once you have already traveled to every corner of the globe, as long as people still exist there will continue to be more and more stuff to do.unabomberman said:Science!
Seriously, what else would anyone do? Human experience ought to become annoying at some point if one were to live forever. Give it a couple hundred years 'tll you feel like you need to be surprised.

The real question is "what wouldn't anyone do?"
True, however, the fact that we regenerate is helpful. Even if you were thrown in jail, you could easily escape, just by fighting. Considering (in this case)that a lost arm take a week to heal, normal injuries (cuts, stabs, broken bones) will regenerate with significant speeds. In fact, I'm not sure that they COULD stop you especially if you have weapons yourself, or you prove you are immortal and gain fanatic followers. CULTS AHOY!Elcarsh said:To the people saying they'd take over the world, there is no reason why you would be able to do that.
Immortality doesn't mean invincibility. So, you can't be killed, but you can be knocked out by a smack across the head with a blunt object, and you can be restrained with a simple pair of handcuffs.
So, in the end, you'd just be chucked in jail for life, which, as you might have guessed, means eternity, so you'd be stuck in prison for as long as the legal system exists.
Really, all it means is that you can't die. You won't have superhuman strength, you won't have superpowers of any kind. Heck, if you'd get cancer, you would get a constantly growing tumor that'll never kill you but you'd start wishing it would.
Quite simply, it's not that attractive a prospect.
