Considering one of the rules of the Death Note is that the user can neither go to Heaven nor Hell for eternity, I wouldn't use it.

In one of the episodes, Light asks Ryuk about the "Not going to heaven or hell" thing, and asks him if there even is a heaven and hell. Ryuk basically tells him there there is no afterlife.

If I got a deathnote, I would kill criminals, without a doubt. I would try to make it as random as possible, and do all that I can to make all of the deaths look like an accident. I would not want the deaths to seem like they were orchestrated by one person.

I would do something similar, but not accidental. Every hour, on the hour, a criminal would die from a heart attack.

And I would sacrifice my afterlife if it meant bettering the world for the future.

Some issues with the concepts of "Not going to hell or heaven" and all that, but if I were to use it:

This one fuckhead at school. He'd get mauled by a bear, live for about a year, then get mauled by another bear and die on the way to the hospital.

Considering also that in the Deathnote universe when you die you fade into nothingness (Mur), and it's implied that if you do when you die you turn into a shimigami....I probably wouldn't use it either.

I would use it in a similair way as Light (using it to kill the scum of the earth) but would write it in such a way that all the deaths apear random (IE random methods and times of death)

First, I would've wrote down the name of my biggest enemy.

Then, I would've use it to make a jerk who is in a long relationship with a girl I'm madly in love in for over 3 years already, to die after cheating on her, so she won't be attached to him afterwards. Then I would've use this situation to my benefit.

Finally, I would've wrote down a peaceful death for both me and said girl at the age of 80 after a happy relationship, before burning it, so I won't even remember about it.
