You have no life!

I'm sure this kind of thread has probably be done before. Anyone who spends a great deal of their time playing video games has probably heard this more than once. But, I discovered a great counter argument.

If someone tells you that you have no life, simply turn around and say that they are the one that doesn't have a life. If you don't spend your time doing exactly what I am doing it means you have no life.

Allow me to explain. Look at the "life" of a person whom says you have no life. By their definition what they spend their time doing constitutes what a "life" must consist of. So therefore if you don't spend your time doing exactly what they are doing it means you have no life. Turn that around on them, tell them that if you don't spend your time doing exactly what I'm doing, it means YOU have no life.

I hope that made sense somewhat.

Problem with this logic is that people who shout 'no life loser' and 'u gots no life' are trolls. And upon being responded to they will either laugh in your face, or go like 'i hav girlfriend and job blablablahahaha'. (and for the same reason as above, replying that you also are in possession of a girlfriend or job will result in again being laughed at)

Best counter argument: Remain quiet.

Basically, a stupid shout towards you not based in fact or logic should not be responded to by a logical answer. It should be ignored. 8|

Tell them that they have penis envy. They won't know what hit 'em.

I just agree with them.

"Yup! I have no life!"

This usually makes them shut up because they either think they have won, or they can't think of a way to mess with you past that point.

Such insults are childish and don't deserve a reply simply to due it's lack of logic, creativity and originality.

By all means fight back zealously however it does question on who you are trying to fool, yourself or that person?

Best counter argument: a witty, calm response about how, yes, in fact you do have a thriving social life, but you just spend a lot of the time that you are at home doing something you love - in this case, playing video games. The "you have no life" argument is insanely flawed and, if thought out, could be applied to any scenario: I spend a lot of my free time playing video games; I have no life. Person A spends a lot of his free time playing football; what difference is there? Hence, he has no life.

If you're doing something you enjoy you do not "not have a life". Additionally, like I said, I still have a strong social life.

Sounds like someone's a teensy bit bitter...
To some degree, if a person is fairly reclusive and doesn't get out much then they do have no life. Going out with mates and generally doing social... stuff is important imo

The best example of this, when I went with my friends to a WOW midnight launch, and the whole town was full of people going to clubs this girl went past in a car and shouted "Sad, get a life"
Then this guy in the line shouted, "your the sad one, get an online life"

The irony was funny but he didn't seem to think he said anything weird.

I just generally tell them something along the lines of, "Sure, when you stop being such a fuckwit."

I found the best response is to happily admit it, and then suddenly they get confused because they were preparing for a big blow out, just let them win straight up and they will utterly depressed by the hollow victory.

I actually have a T-Shirt that says "Video Games ruined my Life. Good thing I have two extra lives." I think that's a pretty good Comeback. If someone tells you to "get a life" just answer with something like "Yeah, you're right, I should. I'm gonna need it for the next Boss Fight."

Seriously though, people like these are idiots. I met a lot of interesting and nice people thanks to gaming and other geeky habits, while I almost downright hate most people I know IRL. Maybe just ask them "Why?" and then chuckle and their confused face or try to argue that you're just doing what you like and that, by their logic, everyone who does the same has no life either. I mean, what do they expect you to do to "get a life"? Go around the town and pump yourself full with alcohol to mess with you biology and pretend you're having a good time? No thanks, I'm off pwning my peers while laughing about gamer in-jokes.

Also, sticks and stones and all...
