Considering some of their decisions..... youk now that white shadow behind text in title bar thats in windows 7? pretty much impossible to do in 8 without turning off the aero. Dark grey letters on black title bar - apparently totally acceptable design.

Heh, you remember when they used to allow us to have skins from previous OS's so that people wouldn't have to deal with this crap? Those were good times.

Yep, though for some reason i could never get them to work properly. but that wasn't necessary as we actually had so much built-in customizability that we could just make things look how we wanted anyway. Now we cant even change font colour[footnote]I would have settled for white text on black background, but no, apparently dark grey text is hardcoded[/footnote].

It also doesn't have Solitaire WITH FUCKING MICROTRANSACTIONS.

Yeah but you can just download a replacement for that so easily. And in terms of actual privacy, you're implying that Microsoft products have never had privacy concerns at all until 10.

Eh. Can't be bothered.
I have 2 laptops, one runs 7, one runs 8. Neither receive updates and both are activated the less legal way.
I'm fine with that, beats the Orwellian garbage MS tries to pull with Windows 10.

Don't get the dislike people have with Windows 8 now it has the .1 update. The Start Screen is just a full screen start menu. Don't like that then grab Classic Shell and get the Windows 7 start menu back. It looks and operates like Windows 7. I honestly think people still allow the incredibly poor launch to colour their view of what is now a very good operating system.

What I don't get is the massive like for Windows 10 when it steals control of Windows Updates from the user.

a.: The "desktop ads" (I'm assuming you're talking about Live Tiles.) can be taken off immediately and permanently if you so choose. And also, they are actually there to provide information at a glance from certain apps right from the Start Menu. So the Live Tiles are actually there for functionality much more than anything. Only one of them actually advertise any sort of product at all. And if they do, it is to be expected since the Marketplace app is... Well, a Marketplace app.

b.: This is one thing you may indeed have a point on. There ARE crude ways to bypass this currently but... Yeah. Not exactly graceful solutions here.
