Two words.

Mercy. Killing.

Seriously, the series has gone so far downhill at this point I'm almost ashamed to admit I played the old ones. Last one I bothered to finish was 9. Liked it more than 8... which I liked less than 7 (by a whole lot) which was about even with 6.... yeah.

Stop making FF games. Period.

I'd let the game die with some shred of dignity left intact rather than whore the series out any longer!!

This kind of topic always reminds me how stupid people can be around here. Did it ever cross your mind that someone else might like something you don?t?
Have you ever tried simply ignoring Final Fantasy and playing something else if you don?t like it anymore?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe I have played EVERY FF Game that's been made?

That perhaps I am a fan of the game but feel like it's time they put the old horse out to pasture so that the next time Square Enix release news of a new game, everyonewon't all at once say:

"Oh yet another FF game right?"

Instead of throwing me or anyone else into the Hate camp site, how about you take into consideration that at some point, even die hard fans have to say "Maybe this has gone on for too long".

End it. It's been running on fumes for a decade now. Square let most of their major franchises rot to focus on Final Fantasy and due to poor decisions and change in staff they've painted themselves into a terrible corner where they don't have anything else. People are going to bring up Kingdom Hearts but that was sold mostly on the promise of Final Fantsasy characters, at least at first.

There was a time when Square was the premier name in rpgs, and not just because of Final Fantasy. Remember when they did other stuff? Xenogears was one of the most acclaimed games they ever did and they let that IP get away from them. People have been clamoring for a new Chrono Trigger game since 2000. Parasite Eve finally got a new game but that took forever and a day.

It's gotten to the point where I feel like any new games in their old series' would feel like cheap attention grabs to me, so all they could really do to win me back was to start focusing on new games.

I got off track here so I'll answer your question again. End the series. It's too late to fix it.

End that *****.

Recreate a whole new franchise, but while still being a JRPG, keep the elements that made FF7 and FF8 so good.

First apologise for Final Fantasy 12 and then announce that we're returning to the classic ATB system and starting by remaking FFVII through to FFIX with better graphics but no change to gameplay and story.

Take your head out of your ass. Square like every other company has release bad games they did it in the 80?s they did it in the 90?s and they?re doing it now.
You know what your statement here says, right?

"Waa! Waa!! I'm whining because someone else doesn't like Square-Enix! It's not fair! Nobody should be allowed to have a bad opinion of them because...because...waa! My argument makes no sense!"

By your twisted logic, I shouldn't be allowed to have a negative opinion of ANYTHING.

XIII didn't exactly fail them, though. It was still one of the fastest-selling games in the series, got great scores from plenty or critics, etc. And really, more people liked it than you would think. I'm thinking Versus XIII will do well.
Now, XIII-2, I think is their attempt to fix what 'went wrong' with XIII, that is to say, make a more traditional game.
Actually, it did. It failed to meet their expectations. By a long shot. They even admitted that publicly last year.

Square-Enix's profits are down 77% from last year, so either it didn't sell that well at all, or it was their ONLY major seller of the year (being a Publisher, this means ALL of their other work bombed).

Kill the IP. Recall all copies of FF13. Burn them. Instead, bring last story over to N.A.
What the hell?
What was so bad about XIII? It's not their greatest game but I honestly haven't a problem with it.
It drags on a little til chapter 11, but chapter 11 is awesome, opens up the game and I'm absolutely loving it now.
How far did you get through the game, just out of curiousity?
I am so sick of people bashing XIII. it wasn't a bad game...

How long does it take to get to chapter 11? Is it a long time? If so that's what's bad.

I haven't played 13. But I watched a friend play for a while and with names like Lightning and Snow and the increasingly preposterous outfits I thought that this is exactly what a Final Fantasy parody game would look like.

It was the worst major release in video game history in my opinion. I got 18 hours in.

Mine would be a twofold approach:

Make Tactics A-3, Tactics and Tactics A-2 were both very good games, maybe make a console version of the game, or just make a version of Tactics using the same characters and world, but without the Tactics interface.

In addition, for the main FF storyline, I think the next step is to finally do this: Final Fantasy: IN SPAAAAAAACE!!!!!!!!

They sorta did this in IV with the Lunar Whale, but that isn't nearly enough!

Complete scrap and overhaul, fire Tetsuya Nomura and send him off to some art boot camp where they can teach him some of the goddamn taste and restraint he showed back when he was first put in charge of things on FF7, kill anyone who so much as mentions cutscenes on the spot, and make a damn game, not a movie that you press buttons to keep watching.

Personally I think when they go to do the next game, most of the team, or at least the major designers, should actually go back and play (or watch other people play) every single game from the original nes ones to the new next gen ones. And I say this not because I think they need to "get back to their roots" (after all they already tried this with FF9), but because I think most of them either came in after the series was popular, have been to busy to actually sit down and play their own work, or have simply forgotten most of it. And the reason this is important is because I think most of them don't seem to understand the evolution of the ideas and concepts throughout the series. Art styles, gameplay systems, and characters have vastly changed in both good and bad ways. but mostly I think lately most everyone agrees it has gone down hill, and I think that's mostly because the designers have sort of lost track of their original goals and motivations that made them decide to take things in the various directions they did, and often lose track of what works and doesn't in a completed game. Then again, maybe that's not the problem as much as the commercial drive for bigger and flasher. I don't know. I don't think it would hurt though.

Remake FFIX. With the princess at an acceptable age for me to fancy again (it was fine at the time, but now i'm older it feels creepy). And make the men more manly, like that main character guy (forgot name), make him more like Marcus Fenix. And replace the moogles with something less wussy, i dunno have them on fire or something. But leave the ATB system, we miss it very much and wish it would come back. Yeah, that'd be cool.
