This topic kind of exploded since last i posted here. I got a more or less you are an antifanboy and you do not really belong in this topic kind of a response when i said dump FF and focus on a real Mana game and some rally old franchises. I want to explain a few things.

I love final fantasy games. I played IV, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XIII, tactics advances, FF:CC(cristal chronicles(gamecube)), FF:CC (ds game). Of those the only one i do not own is IX. I also own both movies FF: The spirit within and FF: advent children which i love both. I am one of the few people that like FF XIII (my fav character in that is Vanilla). So I am not anti final fantasy(I prefer 7 and 8 battle style).

The reason I wouldn't focus on FF is because seiken densetsu used to be a very innovative serie has more or less been put to death by some really crappy sequels after the ps1 (legend of mana).
The first thing i would do i put that back to it's original roots(no more semi-RTS like gameplay or dungeon crawling(enough games that do that way way better)).

Then i would relaunch some really old quirky games that were made by enix and treasure.
Something like this:
Yes that is a cat you are riding on >.<

After that i would go find the roots of final fantasy again. Something they tried with FF IX (couldn't take that game serious with main characters that looked like they were 12).
Magic and summons would be in. Controlling all your team members as well. Cutting down on the cutscenes. Get back to wear the world feels more magical fantasy(do not know another way to put it).

To hell with final fantasy, get the team's asses off the couch and onto Kingdom Hearts III subtitle: NOT A SPINOFF THIS TIME.

(nothing against FF of course, but this would be my priority action)

Put all Final Fantasy related production on hold and have the entire workforce focus on Kingdom Hearts 3. :D

...

What? Don't give me that look. <.<

This kind of topic always reminds me how stupid people can be around here. Did it ever cross your mind that someone else might like something you don?t?
Have you ever tried simply ignoring Final Fantasy and playing something else if you don?t like it anymore?
Did you not notice the bit where I said I was a Final Fantasy Fan?

It's like when they pull the plug on brain dead patients, cause sometimes it is just kinder to let them go.

Cancellation. I'd try to start a new franchaise.

After all, its quality has been declining steadily.

The spin-offs are still decent enough and the company has competent workers, they just need to realize that people like Yasumi Matsuno are much better directors than the Motomu Toriyama's of the company.

Re-release 1, 2, 3, and 7, with modern graphics, voice acting, and multiplayer functionality (Each player controls one of the four characters in a live combat situation, if single player, AI control other 3), and then release up to Final Fantasy 15, bringing the entire series into a giant tie-together closure, and then ending the series, except to re-release the classics on new systems, of course.
And then I'd go to work on something relevant.

My idea in a nutshell
-Turn based battles (FF7 and older style work fine, the new systems just get irritating)
-Simplified interface (Use a simple system such as Materia or ect. so that we don't have to re-learn how to play the game by wading through all the instructions for each game)
-Customizable Characters (For all we care, we could have a text or voiced linier story, but at least let us choose our appearance/fighting style or something. Maybe even give a small list of class ability choices and finisher moves).
-Living world (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Please return life to the NPCs and at least let them wander a bit and have some unique dialouge for every one. Do like FF7 and make me WANT to talk to every NPC to see if they know anything interesting or have any hints)
-Expansive world (Let me run free through the fields, dash with my chocobo, fly my airship, and explore hidden towns and locations!)
-Summons (...I...HATE...HAVING TO CONTROL SUMMONS! It seems that a summon is more useless when actually controlled then when they used to just appear and do some sort of flashy/powerful attack then leave).
-Varied weapons (No I don't want to use a sword...no I don't want to use a gun...can I use a hammer or naginata instead?)
-Characters who aren't a cliche, and who are believable! (Cloud Strife...emo, regretful, revengeful, soldier, hero who saves the world...he worked as a character...Lightning...cold, emotionless, has a kinda but not really feminine side, soldier, hero who saves the wor...*Facepalm*. Maybe breaking the formula by giving us some random person off the street who ISN'T destined for greatness and has NO skill, but is forced to take action regardless and develop their own legacy would be a tad bit better?)

Well, if I can't give fans the coveted remake of Final Fantasy 7, here's what I wanna do...

Final Fantasy: The Planeshift.

Ages ago, an empire of most dreaded fiends known to exist came to form a realm of their own, a place they could rule unchallenged. This became the Dark Dominion. But...as all tyrants and sinful creatures are...they desired more. And so, they reached out and discovered more worlds to conquer. What they discovered first was YOUR WORLD, but they also found others with significant power within them. And shifting from plane to plane, their mounted attack escalated until now, as the resistance makes its move...

If we can't remake a game without taking many odd years to do so, then we may as well bring about a plot that visits them in their current state of being. Fight back against the darkness and seek help from other people in other worlds to end the threat to their well-being once and for all.

And then, I'll make a little something called Erys: The World Reborn and REALLY show my stuff.

First, try to find a mix between turn based and skill based combat OR allow for deeper non-linear leveling systems. Even the best leveling systems in FF are pretty linear including the sphere grid.

Next, make summons awesome again by having them be more rare but substitute a good combat system and options in their place.

Protagonist is a vigilante who has a semi-death wish to contrast the main focus of FF stories. Very gritty and willing to sacrifice lives to his own ends. This of course will soften up as the plot continues. All characters in the party have less teenage angst.

It is in space. I don't know why this hasn't been done yet. But now we up the stakes and talk about a "universal lifeforce" across many planets. That is one collective consciousness.

I like this.

I had outlined in previous posts of this nature how I'd like to do a story set in a secluded magocracy where class and magic power divisions are one and the same. The main character's starting goal is to abolish this system since it dumps tons of people into poverty or slavery for the 'crime' of not being good at magic, however most characters believe he's simply trying to get to the top of the heap.

Naturally, he's forced to reexamine this simplistic world view over time, much like when a rich person fights for the rights of a group they don't belong to- they mean well but do everyone a disservice to think they understand them. Instead of being too moody, his chief flaw is this along with being too singlehandedly devoted to his goal and unwilling to share his intentions with even his close friends unless they force him.

I also had an idea for the first-ever Chocobo party member; one accidentally possessed by a powerful Eidolon or demonic being early on, joining up to try and get his old body back. Thus he speaks with great erudition, both the comic relief due to the limits of his new body and a voice of wisdom at times.
