Now I do like to believe in a reasonable amount of the values presented by Christianity. You know, don't be a dick, be nice, don't kill random people etc etc but if you need the presence of a god lurking over your shoulder to believe in these principles you're doing it wrong.

OT: I was wrong when I said that Nickelback sucked. They just aren't very good.

I was wrong earlier tonight when I was complaining to my friend where he put his cup in my car. I usually keep my iPod jacked into the stereo in the radio-adjacent cup holder, but he moved it into the driver seat-adjacent one so he could put his cup into the radio-adjacent one. I reached for it to change the song, only to find his cup (I wasn't looking) and I was kinda irratated. I brought it up, and while explaining it, realized how trivial the entire "problem" was. We laughed.

Well mostly stuff relating to sexuality, I'm from México and my family was a little conservative so that was kind of a big deal, but I generally tend to be on the opposite side of the fence as my family as far as morals and politics go.

Still that used to be a huge insult and after talking online with more liberal people, I don't see it as something bad, in fact I'm quite a big defendant of homosexuality, I even pretended to be gay once, just to prove a point, poor guy didn't know what to do when I started questioning like he was a complete bigot, though I probably wouldn't feel too strongly about it if my sister wasn't gay.

I used to be way closer to the religious and economic right as far as my beliefs were concerned before coming here. This site didn't have much to do with that change though, that was mostly me and the greatest professor I've had so far being awesome. Now I am much more moderate economically and extremely permissive socially. I was wrong about ME3's ending and the controversy. You guys had every right to be mad. There's other stuff too, but most of it is really small stuff confined to a single thread.

I totally get that. Man, I look back at how homophobic I used to be and I get kinda freaked out. I remember some of the more out there things I said IRL and I feel a bit ashamed. For example, I once persuaded a friend that evolution was evil. I remain so very, very ashamed of that. Most of that had changed before posting here though, as did almost all my beliefs in biblical literalism (not that I ever really believed that come to think of it, more that I entertained the thought where it suited me).

Never had anything IRL for me, but I almost want to go and erase some past things I've said... Though it'd take hours -__-

I'm safe there. I don't think I still agree with everything I ever posted on this site, but the majority is pretty tame. I knew to avoid sounding like a far right nutjob here even when I was still a far right nutjob.

Don't think I was ever that bad, and doubt I'd erase anything here, but elsewhere... Also some kind of mean spirited trolling elsewhere makes me feel a bit embarrassed, though I still don't care much for the people it was targeted at.

I suppose I should've made it clear this is the only site I've seriously commented on. Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem for some, but I generally avoid trolling. I really don't like the idea of being banned or suspended or anything, that and I like being a decent person. That's one thing about myself I'm very glad has not changed. One thing among a host of things.

Eh, the other site in question practically had a revolving door for banned users. Some guys were banned 20+ times, but were still regulars in a particular subforum.

I can see why such a site would be nice, but I know I wouldn't be able to stand it. Heavy moderation is the only thing that keeps me commenting here, though I do think it gets a bit out of hand.

We've all been "betrayed" by a franchise. Really, it's not our place to be mad about someone else's intellectual property. However, being a long-term fan of something, getting intellectually and emotionally invested into it, only to have it crash down around you.

Ex: ME3, Other M, new SW (1&2 in particular), that Alex Cross movie, Prince of Persia (I'll explain if I must), and Emerald Twilight (MovieBob explained that one well).

Trayvon Martin vs. George Zimmerman case.

I originally thought that George had no excuse, and was not threatened enough to need to shoot a gun at all. My Republican friend (and debating opponent, often), showed a picture of George Zimmerman's sustained injuries, and I concluded that he was justified in shooting, and it was unfortunate that the shot was lethal, and hope that, instead of the shooter taking the blame, the precedent will result in a closer look at gun control and the necessity for it to be stronger.

Marijuana. I consistently believed that it was three times more toxic than alcohol and that it was instantly addicting until someone on the escapist gave me a right smack up the head and showed me otherwise, with hard facts. I still hate the stuff but not those who choose to use it (as long as they do not drive).

Additionally the internet and escapist taught me that in a democracy you will get offended otherwise it is not a democracy.

At one point, I thought that I'd be a happy and successful person... And I'm not successful, I've been known to be happy, and I know I can make myself happy even if I'm not innitially feeling it, but hey, when you can't even afford a beer, it gets kinda hard to think about anything other than impending homelessness and starvation, but maybe that's just me.

I was wrong about a lot of things, like thinking that hard work, an impeccable record of attendance, and a strong work ethic, putting your job first and personal happiness second would be enough to keep you employed, but no, being not a family member of or a drinking buddy of your employer means that when someone of either of the other catagories wants your shifts, you lose them...

If you like the show, watch it. You don't need to participate in the 'community'. The most I do is read EqD from time to time and I'm subbed to the MLP reddit, which is mostly just art and being gossiping about the show.

Give it another shot. If everyone gave up on things they liked because 4chan ruined it, nobody would like anything; 4chan ruins everything.

Actually, I have issue with the saying. I think it applies to most of the internet, where only the most polar, extreme people will be throwing vitriol back and forth. But honestly, most people on the Escapist are so insightful I am reminded how unthoughtful I am every time I write anything. In a few minutes, someone will come along and tell me that vitriol can't be thrown or try to prove that it only applies to SOME of the internet, and they'll probably be right.
