As many people already know, New Moon is out. I am not a fan of the Twilight series, like many others. But I don't really see why people do like Twilight. So if you can tell me why people like the twilight series so much, please tell me. My best guess is the readers are fantisising about having a vampire boyfriend or somthing.

they conducted a study, girls LOVE twilight because they want to see the "perfect guy". the "perfect guy" response blew every other reason out of the water.
Yeah that's pretty much it. Whenever I see a fangirl, they're usually squealing about the main male character.

Proably as a replacement for Harry Potter. When the 7th book came out, I noticed a lot of people reading Twilight books soon after. Thats my theory though.

Also, threads like these are often looked down upon. Opinons differ and it's diffult to get a straight answer from one group as to why they like a certain product. Be it games, book,Movies,Tv Shows exc exc exc

I assumed thats why Sex And the City got so popular, it's all escapism. I cant really deny anyone their dreams of a more ideal existance, I CAN however dislike what they use for it. Twilight is one of these things, it's like they tried to distill the very essence of what would bring in the most cash money

Makes sense. It's the whole psychodynamic identification thing.

Oh, I do love these threads.

I would imagine it would have something to do with Bella who is extremely transferrable with oneself. That and Edward is HAWT.

I could so be an emo vampire.

I just need to whinge and mope a lot, while being really creepy and trying to lick women. I've already got it half down.

Which is potentially the most ironic reason to like this at all. Edward(from my limited experience with Twilight and having seen the debauchery of cinema that was the first movie), is, to put it lightly, far from the perfect guy...Now, I am straight, and I am male, but even I know a terrible choice for a boyfriend when I see one...The only logical reason I've found for any girl to like this guy, is the fact that he's "OH EM GE SO FREAKIN HOT!!1!111". I have never heard of a guy with more mood swings, and less of a personality than this guy. Honestly, people need to wake up, grow up, and get over him.

this is where the 2nd study comes in that shows women who watch more of the "perfect guy" nonsense get progressively WORSE at relationships as the woman expects the man to be a perfect guy who can read her mind, etc. the 1 study was a news report, and the 2nd was on MSN a couple months ago.
Well... I could've come to those conclusions based solely on logic and personal experience. In fact, I did.

My experience of Twilight is limited to the first movie and while I have to say I found all the characters to be thoroughly infantile, but that's the whole point. I remember being thirteen and my notion of a perfect relationship was something quite similar. And I'm a guy.

Of course, it all becomes utterly ridiculous once you actually grow up but the damage has already been done. Romantic Hollywood fiction is, I think, just as if not more destructive to a child as pornography.

Thank you for that, that was quite hilarious.

"I'll have no participation, in this Vampire pussification." <---Awesome lyric right there.

OP: Ultratwinkie pretty much answered it for me.

WARING THIS POST IS INCREDIBLY BIASED!: Girls like Edward because they think he is the perfect guy, and why can't all guys be like him and he is just so incredible. (Obviously I have some feelings about these girls liking him lol).

I know, this doesn't make sense to me either. To quote El Goonish Shive (a webcomic you should read immediately[/shameless plug]), "Vampires hypnotize you, then suck your blood for sustenance. The real-life equivalent would be a handsom man seducing you, then stealing your purse to buy himself a sandwich."

what is twilight?
is this one of those series that made anne rice's vampire books look not gay?
I say ignore them. they will die the horrible deaths they deserve when real vampires show up and start ripping throats out.
