im 19 so im not sure if im still a "young gamer" or not but when speaking of gamers of around 15 years of age i dont hate them i have no reason to. wat i do hate r the kids that just use their mic to say one of two things: "OMG U FUKING NOOB!!" when they get killed or "HAHAHA U FUKING SUCK BALLS NOOB!!!" when they kill someone. Mics are to socialize or strategize not to spout nonsense with high pitched voices. I also hate their overuse of the word "noob" as apparantly anyone but them is one.

I'd be quite a hypocrite if I hated you for gaming, but even I get annoyed by those people who just won't keep quiet. And since I don't have a mike, I can't even ask them to.

In that case... Please note that sarcasm doesn't translate well onto the internet unless made blatantly obvious(Which i guess yours was, but as this ruel illustrates you can never be sure).

Note i'm not quoting anyone as this seems to be a general rule of thumb online.
I take total responsibility. I thought my repeated emphasis on children being attacked and devoured by giant lizards was sufficient evidence that I was not being entirely sincere, but I see that I was mistaken.
Like i said, you can never be too sure. There're some crazy people out there, and i know one or two others who would with honesty and intent get behind what you were saying. Suffice to say they're more like people i know "of" rather than know "well". Anyways... good to know noone's comdemning anyone around here :D

It's been said before, but I'll reiterate, because it's my take as well.

I'm not sure of the "hate" you're speaking of, though "hate" seems to have become synonymous with "annoyance" and many gamers both young and old do annoy me. You don't seem to hold their spirit, so I doubt this applies to you, but what annoys me about them?

Well, it's mostly this...

Gaming used to be a bit of an underground thing, the thing for nerds, gamers were the weird kids the jock kind of twats picked on and harassed. In recent years, gaming has made the natural evolution to being a more socially accepted thing, which is good. Unfortunately, this means the jock-type twat mentality has also come along for the ride, so you get entire genres of games, forums and groups built almost exclusively around this macho posturing trash-talking bullshit. Outdated male impulsed our species needed to abandon generations ago are catered to with dipshits actually bragging and arguing over which system is best, who has the highest kill ratio, the best Street Fighter in the world and on and on. For all of the nonsense 'gaming' could easily be replaced with 'their cars' and you'd get roughly the same results in practice.

Me and mine, we still just game for fun. It's great to socialize across a mic, chat up a friend a bit across the globe while busting skulls in Splatterhouse or share the fight in Heavy Weapon. But all this competitive alpha behaviour garbage has to go.

Like everyone else has said, most have no problem with young gamers in particular, only the ones who are obnoxious and ignorant. What bothers me about the OP though is that you could not figure this out on your own. Clearly you have more brain cells to rub together than most 15 year olds, so couldn't you figure out you're not the problem on your own? No offense, but it kind of seems like you just want attention, like many 15 year olds do.

I hate little kids on TF2. I'm 16, so I kinda count in the area of hatred, but I'm not a fucking asshole so people don't mind me. I think it's just assholes playing CoD who give younger gamers bad names. I know some decent younger gamers.

Most of my frustration comes from watching my cousins who can't seem to beat any of the games they own. Or younger siblings who want flash games over ps3 games.

That's really expanded my eyes on the subject, and I agree, hate is confused with annoy constantly. The thing that bothers me is that after a match on MW2 or Reach I'll say "Good game guys" and a random manchild will shout out "Shut up you ****** kid" That is the raw hate that I have a hard time understanding. But seriously, kudos on that post.

Play Minecraft, Call of Duty, or any other popular game populated largely by kids under the age of 16 and you'll understand why most people generalize. I remember gaming at the age of 13, 14, 15, etc. I just never went on the mic, or revealed my age, and people don't give you shit. Honestly, it's not that hard, I had maybe two times in three years I was called a "dumb kid" or something similar.

This is a honest question. I only ask you respect it. I'm 15 and I'm sure that makes some of you have a surge of anger or resentment towards me. I understand that you have these feelings, but I don't understand why. I am not the kind of teen who plays Black Ops all night over and over. I enjoy a wide variety of genres and I am not a console fanboy. I own the 3 current "in" consoles, using money I've earned from my summer job and money from my birthdays and gifts from Christmas. I'm not the little shit who stays in his room and ignores his parents. I've enjoyed all the great games many of you do, and I share your love of games. So why the hate? Please share your anger about my gaming generation and how to improve my interaction with the older members of the gaming community so I can improve my interaction with you all.
Thank you so much for reading.
Hate you!?

Why the hell would I hate you? When I'm in the same boat as you! Well, I'm 18 and according to some asshat we have to fight fucking Giant lizards till we are twenty five.

Not sure if it's really my place to post, seeing as how I'm only 16 myself, but I'll take a stab at it.

Little kids, of any age, whether it be 8, or 12, have had their daddy go out and buy them a game that is wholly inappropriate for them. Therefore, because they have something that, in essence, they shouldn't really have, they view themselves as the shit. They then discover VOIP, and their obnoxious, whiny, spoiled personalities flourish, and emerge, accompanied by a torrent of high-pitched noises, which are, more often than not, homophobic and offensive slurs, which again, they see as cool because they shouldn't really be saying them.

It all comes down to bad parenting really. A good parent will assess a child's mental stability and maturity, and then, based on those two factors, allow them certain games, and disallow them others. For example, as much as my little brother of 7 says that he likes it, I will refuse to let him watch Bioshock 2 or Borderlands, because it is not good for him.

Also, not all children are twats. I've come across the odd mature, stable 13-year-old who is intelligent and articulate on VOIP. It just doesn't happen often.

Not all young people on multiplayer are idiots/douches/whatever. Only a portion of them (I have no idea if it's the majority,or a minority making itself very obvious) are loud and obnoxious pricks that deserve to be powdered in Thermite and lit with a magnesium match.

There are SOME young gamers that are decent poeple. Yes,as they are young, they (usually) have less experience than others, and may ask what we see as stupid questions,or make stupid mistakes. We've all been there. We all used to be them. However, the young ones that will actually develop into a skilled, and co-operative,gamer will be the ones that want to learn, and will accept the truth from any source. Even from the guy that just blasted them in the head with a sawed-off shotgun from five hundred meters off.

But,for the ones who DON'T want to stop being loud.obnoxious pricks? Soak 'em down, cover 'em in Thermite, light 'em up with a magnesium match.

Here is how it works with people with a functional IQ:
19 and over: immaturity- needs to grow up/Maturity-cool...
14-18: immaturity:
swears too much- get over it and shut up
mean to/makes fun of others- little shit
using cheap ass tactics all the time- uuuuuuuuggggghhh
14-18: maturity-at least he is behaving himself
13 and younger: the most likley situation(they are immature)-why are your parents letting you play a mature game?/play something more appropriate kid.
13 and younger: mature- holy shit...

I am 16 and I have grown tired this immaturity that comes with the online gaming experience, although rarely it is actually quite hilarious.

It isn't your age that is a problem, it is your attitude. Almost all young kids I play with on PC run their mouths and scream in their mics to get attention. I still don't use a mic since in a deathmatch game its just annoying. You can type on the PC so unless you are in a clan trying to work together, keep your voice out of pub servers. I don't mind playing with you as long as you just act like an adult.

Addressing the original topic, as an avid Left 4 Dead player, I must say that I'm quite fond of kids. Even their squeaky chatter isn't all that annoying.

But L4D and L4D2 are both special circumstances.

The cool thing about young people in L4D campaign mode (or especially L4D2 Realism mode) is that they learn and learn fast. Nothing straightens out one's act like becoming a cautionary tale. And after getting eaten a few times (without closets in Realism), they quickly figure out how to model after those of us who know (more of) what we're doing. Maybe a dozen times I've seen kids' attitudes transform over the course of a single game, and it's one of the best experiences I know to regain hope in the longevity of the human species. Nothing like a zombie apocalypse to teach manners, charity and reciprocal altruism

Most griefers are teens, but few teens are griefers. My experience with teen players is that they overestimate their own capabilities, and are not swayed from bad habits so quickly when they get pounced by Hunters. Of course part of the problem is that many players (of all ages) join Realism games without knowing the difference between that and Campaign mode. The unwitting usually get eaten by witches, or pounced when they stray out of sight. There are also the ones that join and then vote to increase the difficulty. In the occasions that the vote passes, we all generally get wiped out very quickly; Realism doesn't forgive. (Realism does not forget. Realism is legion.)

The worst players are invariably adults, either who have control issues, or who are drunk, or both. But then again, most players are adults, and few of them are problematic.
