For me... just alcohol and regrets. Doesn't bother me, having "fun" is what uni is foraPod said:Alcohol, women, and regrets.

Glad you liked it, Charlie Brooker never fails to make me chuckleNickolai77 said:Thanks for the link, that was an enjoyable readWadders said:As you say, pubs are infinitly preferable. Less obnoxious music, less drugged up goons, and talking is actually possible.
Charlie Brooker has a pretty hilarious article on clubs which you may enjoy

Almost definitely. I'd say it's pretty much impossible to be a recluse because there are people everywhere. Just start off on good terms with your flatmates (I'm assuming you will be living in halls) and all should be wellsplatterguy734 said:I rarely (never) go out, not many friends, you see but when I go to uni that'll all change right...right?

You will make friends at university but take some advise from me. If your a quiet person with some not-so mainstream interests like gaming, heavy metal music, or science fiction say, i strongly recommend you join a society from day 1 at the freshers fair. Most of your flat-mates will have fairly ordinary interests like pop music and football, so if you don't have mainstream interests and want to make some really good friends at university- i strongly recommend societies.splatterguy734 said:I rarely (never) go out, not many friends, you see but when I go to uni that'll all change right...right?
Yeah I fall into the first category. Thank you for your advice its generally been some of the best I've heard.Nickolai77 said:You will make friends at university but take some advise from me. I'm telling you this because i failed to do that. While i do have friends, it means i have to visit annoying night clubs with loud crap music. This is while missing conversations about video games, heavy metal, and making internet-related jokes with my 6th form friends...
If your interests are fairly normal and standard- you like drinking, sport, and indie rock music say, then you won't have a problem at all.

There's so much out there to experience, and my biggest regret in life was that I remained a cloistered nerd in my room for so many years that I could have spent seeing live bands, meeting new people and experiencing so much more than I could have experienced playing Baldur's Gate and listening to Dreamtheatre all night.Nerdfury said:Wow, I'm surprised you can hear us all from up there on your high horse.
Still sounds like a good night, just dont assume I'm perpetually wasted, or a loner for that matter![]()
Nerdfury said:ah, now that's understandable. I do admit, I enjoy going out and getting wasted, but that doesn't mean I have to ignore things like going to see bands, going on holiday, and going on outings and things with my friends. It is possible to strike a balanceWadders said:It's just tiring to see so many of these people, and my own friends, remain either these cloistered basement dwellers who don't get out and see bands or meet new people, or these douchey shits who go out, get as drunk/stoned/wasted as possible and lose the whole night in a blur.
