Oh, woopsies, read that wrong. Lets see, 50 euros maaaakes... $70. Still pretty expensive, I had stress-tests too for that price. No software installations though. I mean, 50 extra euros to install Windows 7? Gimme a break...
It's not just raw currency conversion, it's buying power, the EURO, USD, GBP, all have better buying power then the AUD.

A number of years ago, more then I'd care to remember, I build computers at a local computer store before moving on, at that store it was $50 for a computer assembly, $50 for a OS install.

I got mine done at a respected online retailer, and chose extras that I prefered, the reason the OS cost more to install as I wanted it was they had to do it manually rather then use the WinPE like normally, I didn't want that crap that comes with newly installed machines, I wanted Windows and updates, that's it.

Frankly I was being lazy and throwing money at the problem, too many years of fixing and building computers for a live to enjoy it anymore, before I started in the industry I loved tinkering and building my own machines, now I can't stand it.

Turn the computer off to further delay it then use a different computer to search for solutions.

D'OH >.< That's the second wrong conversion I made, I converted to USD.

Regardless, I know what you mean. Isn't it just great to make a problem go away by throwing money at it? Makes me feel so rich.

Turn off computer. Remove hard drive from computer. Put hard drive into spare computer. Boot up spare computer. Copy files I know are clean from compromised hard drive onto spare. Format compromised hard drive. Reinstall OS on it. Feel stupid that I had to waste so much time doing this and wondering how the hell the compromised hard drive got compromised in the first place.

Why yes, I am a buzzkill.

Wouldn't be surprised, since if I turn this laptop off, I'm gonna have to heat it up to roughly 50-60 degrees Celcius to boot it again. It refuses to do a "cold" start...

Would be a shame though, as I wouldn't have a laptop to use at my parents place.

Order the correct equipment to resuscitate my laptop, and if I'm not allowed to do that, then order a new laptop? heck, my computer is in warranty, I'd do a "future" *cough cough* e-mail saying I need to send it back to be fixed, then a trip to the library regularly to check for their reply. If it is irreversible then they have my laptop and I ask for my money back.

I,ll shoot it before it can die, and then I will make a cakeianic ritual, and summon my stuff on another computer.

turn it off, remove the HD and back it up from another PC. Google the message (probably finding this forum ;) ).
Stick it back in if I couldn't diagnose why it was gonna die ... just to see what actually happens to it :)

Go out and buy a replacement "whatever-I-need?" Assuming my hard drive is in no danger, I don't see it as a huge problem >.>

Screaming "Nooooooooooooooo!"
I have nothing to back up on. Well, luckily I haven't much that needs to be backupped, save for a few drawing perhaps.
