Ignoring the fact that I refuse to enter any relationship for various reasons, pretty sure it's a yes for everybody. I've seen it a lot in my friemds, all telling me they found somebody perfect, then a few years later they find somebody else who is perfect and the last one was a stupid whore/*****/whatever. It seems that during the relationship they delude themslves into thinking that a particular girl is actually different and special. That said I'm particularly cynical about this type of stuff, and I acknowledge that. So maybe I'm not the best person to ask about it.

I admit I wasn't too keen on the idea at first, but after spending more and more time with her I came to realize that she is everything I want out of a companion. She's even losing weight, which is fucking awesome! You know, for her. Health and whatever.

I continuously hope the girl I like settles for me.
That comes across as pointless. You're not going to have a good relationship if the other person doesn't really want to be with you.

OT: No, I've never settled. Then again, I've never had a girlfriend, anyways. *sigh* youth...
That was the joke. It was a bittersweet one, and it wasn't really funny, but it was intended to be a joke.

Sadly yeah, this last time i did settle, but we broke up several days ago. Started off as something close to a booty call, and then, just because i suck at making myself clear at the expense of hurting others, let feelings on their end escalate.

I settled once, and wound up with an emotionally abusive guy because of it. I will never settle again.

Nah, not really. My girlfriend is so awesome I had no problems with this, she still allows me to do some pretty crazy stuff without consequentions.

Well, I suppose I always wanted something a little more... heterosexual.

But then I realised that, since we're allowed to go out and sleep with whoever we want (open relationship), I've got the emotional commitment I wanted without being tied down (well, not metaphorically, anyway).

Not that I've ever got the chance to exercise that freedom, but it does go a long way to keeping me content without worrying about "oh god, what if this that etc."

What relationship? Ohohohoh! But seriously, folks. I'm going to go cry in a corner now.

That kind of thing doesn't transmit well through text, I guess.

Not currently in a relationship per se. We aren't officially dating, but we do a lot of couple-y things, like stay up late watching movies together and make out. She is a term my friends invented for situations like this: my NQAG or Not Quite A Girlfriend.

I'm not sure if settling would apply here, as I'm perfectly fine with how things are right now, as I got out of a 3 year relationship about 2 months ago. Wasn't looking for something serious and the companionship is nice. So no, I guess I haven't :)

Hell no. You know the guy who fancies his best friend as she dates another guy? Well I was that guy for two years, then she broke up with him and we got together a few months later. Thats what I'd call a success and a year later I still feel very lucky to be with her.

You know,
i asked myself that same question
And it "no".
My wife is a beautiful woman ((perhaps a bit pale for my tastes...)),
and i always ask her why she chose me. ((6'1, 275lbs, moderately broke))

She says she didnt settle for me,
but i think she did x:
I think she chose me because she knew it was ether an extremely nice nerd,
or a good looking a-hole.

She settled for me... in a good way.
Dont get me wrong. She loves the crap out of me. ((and my cooking))
But i think she settles for me because she knows finding someone for a long term relationship with a guy who can cook, clean, watch after kids, work overtime if were low on money and still find time to cuddle with her isnt all that likely.

I just broke up with my girlfriend recently after over 5 years. To be honest it did feel like I was settling as my love had grown out of desperation. She was always very insecure and I always made her feels nice about her own body, but pressure from her friends and mine got to the back of our minds about me being able to do better.
It became a burden to have to reassure her, I loved her because she loved me (still do in a way it doesn't leave if you love them) not because I was attracted to her, at least at first anyway.

She asked me out, I went along for the ride, eventually fell in love and we imagined we'd be together for life. There was a doubt in my mind about settling.

I'm single because I have neither the time, money, or patience to deal with a girlfriend.
The lack of money means you won't have to deal with one, don't worry.
Woah this wasn't me btdubs. Real Capcom4evar says: Nope. Settling means your letting the woman have all the power, and that's just wrong. She's got flaws, she can find someone who can deal. I'll find someone else.
