Nearly all of Miyazaki's stuff (Castle in the Sky is a fond favorite behind all the ones already mentioned here!) and I really must second Vampire Hunter D (both the first one and blood lust). Just epic stuff right there. Who can resist a dhampire with a talking hand? Not I!

I had heard that Fate/stay Night suffered some in its adaption, especially regarding characterization of it's main character (who so far seems like a doormat extraordinaire), less-than-stellar animation (which doesn't bother me though) and less exciting fights (which seem odd considering that the VN should have stationary CG's with very limited animation).

It's shaping up to be much better than To aru Majutsu no Index though (which was what the box art reminded me of), with a setting and style that's quite appealing so far, and with repeated promises that the VN's are vastly superior I'll probably end up trying to track them down unless the anime changes drastically from what (little) I've seen so far.
Hmm, haven't seen Index yet, but I'm glad you're enjoying F/SN. If you made it past the first two episodes (which are pretty damn slow), you'll probably enjoy the rest of the show, it has pretty consistently well timed points of rising and falling action as it goes through the arcs. The mischaracterization of Shirou is really the show's greatest sin. They never really get around to properly explaining just WHY he is the way he is, which the novel focuses on extensively. Of course, you need to understand that to appreciate the character changes during the next two arcs.

And Takeuchi's character designs lose a little bit in translation sadly, but it could be worse. The thing that is worse is Mancueid. If you don't know what that is, that's a good thing.

Oh, and about the action, the VNs music and Nasu's narration style are extremely good at keeping up tension. They use some of the music in the anime, but it's not as noticeable.

One last thing, get the voiced version of the game that you can install with the Mirror Moon patch, the actors do a REALLY good job. You need a disc .iso of Realta Nua for that.

Watch Rebuild 2.22 then! It's even better!

OT: Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22 of course!
So far Rebuild has yet to eclipse Re-Take for me. It's not bad, and I have enjoyed it, Rebuild just hasn't yet proven itself to me as a complete piece of Eva lore. I'm sure by the end it will though.

(Go read Re-Take, it's amazing)

Ghibli... just... Ghibli.

But also:
Ninja Scroll
Street Fighter Alpha
Macross Plus

hm... That'll do it. Those really are right up there on my favourites-list with most of Ghibli's work. Hayao Miyazaki's in particular.

Ghost In The Shell for the newest ideas to be brought up in an anime film for me, and being amongst the first anime flick I saw.

End of Evangelion for how memorable the scenes were, and a really cool execution

Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade for how much I cared about the characters.

I'm actually a big fan of Ghibli's lesser-known Porco Rosso. The English version has some spotty dubbing here and there, but it's a really beautiful story and quasi-period piece that walks the line between surrealism and romanticism.

Ghibli is the only form of anime I'm willing to stomach, with the occasional exception of things with giant mecha in them.

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned Akira yet.

Personally,I've got a mixed bag for this.

I've only seen three: Spirited away, My neighbour Totoro and the Clannad movie.

I think I like Spirited away the most; but I was a bit too young when I watched it, so I didn't quite get it at the time, and I don't remember too much from it.

The Clannad movie is definitely the worst. It was fairly okay by itself, but I had already seen the Kyoani series, so compared to Clannad and Clannad after story's shining brilliance it was just comical.

Ghost in the shell: Innocence.

That movie is just so damn beautifully made. Beats any of the Ghibli movies for me.
