Persona 4, Persona 4 and most recently Persona 4. I fucking adore that game, they even did one, soon to be two fighting game spin offs with it and they are the best fighting games I have ever played. The characters might not be super balanced but they're pretty even when there's only like 2 tiers. Average and Good Tier followed by Misuru in her own personal God Tier and on the other side we have hilariously ironic Trash Tier Elizabeth.
Aside from that I have a couple of favourite Visual Novels, top favourite is Grisaia no Kaijitsu which funnily enough is having an anime adaptation this season, honestly I don't even care if it's worse than the novel (it will be, the novel is godlike) just seeing Best Girl Michiru in animation should be enough.
Another one is the recently translated Comyu which despite suffering(?) from aggressively limited route choices (NO you go Common, Benio, Saejima, Mayuki/Ayaya THEN Best Girl Kagome!) and somehow fails to shove loads of choices into a battle story it's still really fuckin' good.
Don't worry though, Best Girl Kagome delivers so the limited route progressions were definitely needed for maximum appreciation and story impact, some people like me see them and just dislike them by default. I don't get how didn't go for Bad Ends everywhere like every other battle VN cuz these kind of devs usually love showing their sadistic sides, thanks Type Moon.
I realise I didn't explain what they are in theme or story but I would be here forever if I did. Basically, if you're looking to get into VNs, first play Katawa Shoujo cuz it's a great entry level one then play Grisaia and Comyu. Persona 4 is mandatory for everyone of course.
