Say what you want about it, but I personally loved it. Especially the part immediately following this where you run through the ship in a straightjacket. Not the best of all time, but the best one I can remember.
Hogs of War's opening is a classic, don't know if anyone will remember it on the Playstation?
I like the openings of the Total War series as well, they all show off what the game is capable of and leave you really wanting to play, rather then forcing story at you.

If I may sir, the original Red Alert 2 opening was much more deserving of love. The epic in that just that bit of film was overwhelming, from the live action scene to the beginning when Hell March kicks in with CGI Kirovs... FFX has one of the best openings. The music, the quick dialogue, and the scene all blend together perfectly. Now that was a hook for me. Then once after you beat the game and replay it, the opening is just like a sledgehammer. Gets me everytime.

Mass Effect 2's was pretty epic. Other than that, Morrowind's was pretty cool. Although it wasn't grandious, there was something quite engaging about climbing on deck and seeing the world for the fist time. It's an elderscrolls thing, you won't understand.
I know it's already been said, but I really did love the opening for Mass Effect 2.
That was until I was forced to watch the thing EVERY SINGLE TIME I started a new play through. I'd boot it up, walk away and go get snacks or something.
That and Bioshock. That one was pretty damn awesome as well.

QFT, and just to force you to watch it, they make you play through it. For that reason alone, it is my least favorite opening of any game. Ever.Whargarble said:
I can't really come up with a best, but God of War 1 did it right in my opinion.
It takes less than a minute, it's creative in how it transitions from new game to intro video, and it hooks you in.
In general, I hate intro videos which are overly long or feature montages of the characters. I like the intro to be just that: an introduction.
