Probably TYR. It's actually a really weird case though. I know a hell of a lot of people who listen to all different types of music but the only people who have heard of this band, were introduced by me. The reason this is weird, is because I listen to dozens of Folk-Metal bands, most of which are a lot more popular than TYR, yet TYR seem to be the only band who have CDs in most record shops.

It could be down to the fact that they played Bloodstock though. Or was it download? I can't remember. Either way they had a small slot at a large festival. I guess they are more popular.

So after all that, it's not a legit answer, really.

My real answer is Ensiferum.

EDIT: NO WAIT, it's Falkenbach. Hardly anybody knows about this band and they rock my sock off.

Barenaked Ladies. Nobody I know has heard of them, but they are my favourite band ever.
I seriously love this band as well! They might not be as small as you think though, they've had a song played on Scrubs. I guess that doesn't really make any difference to their popularity though.

I have a few...
Maximo Park
The Outline
Nine Black Alps
Jupiter One...

Actually, you'll have heard of most of these if you've played the Burnout series.

Shortwave Fade; There not bad. And I heard of them thanks to my Gf's uncle (I think =/) being in the band they are on iTunes and Facebook.

Genre is a cross between alternate and rock (really hard to class they have the songs on Facebook so choose for yourself and if you like it only way is from iTunes).

Alabama 3's my favourite unheard of band although alot of unheard bands have better music than mainstream. Not to say mainstream is bad or anything, it's just nice for a bit of a change.
