The one, the only Flash Gordon. Serious actors like Max von Sydow and BRIAN BLESSED letting themselves go wild, soundtrack by fricken Queen... This film has it all, as far as I'm concerned.

Can I just embed this and say Commando is the greatest movie ever in the history of cheesy, campy action movies?

I mean, if you have not seen this movie yet, WHY?!

I'm really surprised that I see genuinely good movies on this list like Mad Max I and II, Escape from NY and even to some extent Warriors. But it's all a matter of taste I guess. When I think of cheese I think of bad movies that are highly entertaining thus worth being watched more than once. Prime example of that for me is Showdown in Little Tokyo

And not to repeat great cheese movies like Tremors, Army of Darkness and such I could add Rocky 4

or Conwoy

But I could add a movie that I actually consider really good even if it was box office bust and is not appreciated all that much today, Blood of Heroes of Saulute of the Jugger

Hey thanks! I'd heard of The Warriors (or to be precise, I've heard people yelling "Warriors, come out to plaaaay!") but not Assault on Precinct 13. I'll put them on the list as well. ;)

Streets of Fire.

Any movie that stars an overacting Willem Dafoe opens and closes with a Jim Steinman song is bound to be my favorite campy but glorious movie.

So many awesome movies have been mentioned so far, so I'll throw my vote in for Slither.

Some great picks here and some I need to remember.

Slither. I did not realise it was not a serious film till watching it, but that scene when they first meet the massive cow feasting person, I cannot remember what the main guy said, but it made me laugh so very much. Which is a rarity.

Rat Race John Cleese, Rowan-goddamn-Atkinson and more great casties in a fun romp across America for money. For some reason I didnt expect much, but pleasantly surprised was the end result.

Soul plane Just turn your brain off for this silliness. No, more off than that. There we go!

Not only is it top of the line whackadoodle, it's well-crafted whackadoodle (Especially given that it came out in 1941).

Clockstoppers... because the rules of the time watch is too inconsistent to put logic behind it...

Other than that, the movie adaptation of I Spy... because the movie thinks you would never guess who the culprit really is...

What is it with people mentioning Big Trouble in Little China and Airport in this thread? Those movies are unapologetically awesome.

My choice? Four Rooms.

Yesterday I watched Big trouble in little China at a film festival. I laughed my ass off! Can't say it was particularly good but it made me laugh and it certainly was campy and a bit cheesy.

I've read Escape from LA is really terrible, so I'm not sure if I want to watch it or not.
Ehhh... yes and no.

The movie itself is a lot sillier than Escape From New York, and it suffers from particularly bad 90's CGI in a couple parts. However, that said, if you like the Snake Plissken character, Kurt Russell is still on his A-game.

In terms of tonal difference, Escape From LA is to Escape From New York as Army of Darkness is to Evil Dead/Evil Dead 2. I'm not entirely sure why Army of Darkness is so highly regarded while Escape From LA isn't; I think they're both pretty fun movies with great lead actors playing pretty memorable characters.

I'd agree with this. Escape From LA isn't a good movie like NY is, but that's not to say it isn't enjoyable. The way I explained it to a friend who had seen NY but not LA: It's like Escape from NY was too subtle and everyone thought it was unironically badass, and so Carpenter made a sequel that no one could watch and not get the satire.
