Single desert eagle or double 9mm pistol from MP1 & 2
M4,MP5 and all its variants in most modern FPS shooters

There is little that cannot be solved with a liberal application of Boltgun.

Self-propelled explosive bolts delivered with an extended magazine and a pan-spectral auto-sight?

Yes, I think so.

I especially like the version from Space Marine, love the concussive feel of it and the crashing sound each shell makes as it leaved the barrel, music in the din of battle.

Melta and Heavy Bolter from Space Marine.
Really?! The melta didn't do anything for me... it was hardly than a handful of bolter shells to the face. There weren't any vehicles to 'reduce to molten slag' (as you can do in the tabletop... sort of) and the lascannon was better by virtue of range.

'force-hammer'? 'FORCE-HAMMER'?! What kind of uneducated cretin of a heretic are you?! It's THUNDER HAMMER!! /WH40K purism =P

OT: I quite liked the thunder hammer too, though when it comes to CC weapons, I'll go with Alex Mercer's Whipfist. Hahah, mass body-halving with a swish.

For ranged weapons, there's Sonora Cruz's pistol (though you have to cheat to get it... and it basically breaks the game), but seriously,

Ahhh the Lincon Repeater, that was such a good gun. I liked the ting it made when you shot it, the click when you put another round in the chamber, hell, i even liked the way you had to reload it, one bullet at a time.
I'll agree with that... with the same reasoning, too. Second is the M1 Garand (regardless of game it's in), purely for the sound it makes. Eight shots and that delightful *ping* as the clip is ejected.

My absolute favorite weapon?

For melee, the Katana. Elegant, aerodynamically engineered, and tougher than most western blades, the Katana is usually my 'go to' weapon in any melee situation.

For close-quarters combat, I always go with the shotgun, preferably a Benelli Tactical or Franchi SPAS-12. Variety in munitions means I'm ready for any situation with buckshot, slugs, or flechettes.

For maximum devastation at long range, the Mechem NTW-20 is my longarm of choice. While the weapon is limited to three shots, it's 20mm anti-materiel round is enough to ensure that whatever you're shooting at will go down, and stay that way.

Some from a variety of different game genres:

The railgun MekTek added to MW4Mercs. Nothing quite like a one hit kill on a mech.

The Massacre from Iji.

Gatling lasers from Fallout 3 or NV; just wish they had more ammo available...

Freespace 2's GTW UD-8 Kayser.

Nero's Red Queen sword from Devil May Cry 4.
Something about giving a sword the mechanisms of a motorbike really touches the primitive part of my brain.

This Machine from Fallout: New Vegas. Basically the M1 Garand.

Love that wonderous ching! when you empty a clip.

In reality, I favor the H&K MP5SD. Reliable, sturdy, accurate from short to medium range. Great gun.

Melta pwned the nobs and also in the Mutiplayer, nothing says 'pro' like rushing people with the Melta. XD And the heavy bolter because of the kick on it.

Gauss Rifle from the original Crysis. Preferable with a sniper-scope!
