"Let no joyful voice be heard!

Let no man look up at the sky with hope!

And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake!

THE KRAKEN!"

in my heart the best mythological animal (to me) would have to be the Blink dog.
while in most respects you would expect a blink dog to appear in D&D settings as some form of monster alone they are not considerd much of a threat but a whole pack of fanged and occasionaly blodied blink dogs would surely be a sight...or it would if they could not all magicly teleport anytime they want. Also the blink dog is awesome in that it combines the aspects of a dog with the powers of magic to make mans best friend truely a friend with benifits. Good luck trying to keep him off the couch however.
Runners up would have to be the Shocker lizard due to personal experence:
And last but not least the Kobold: A small leathery skined humanoid in the Dungeons and Dragons Mythos. not for being atractive or anything but because they to me represent a community of survivors, a people willing to do whatever it takes to take their ever increaseing population and bring population boom after population boom, setting expertly designed and simple traps to steal supplies and capture slaves to sell to the highest bidder for money to purchase provisions, most worshiping Dragons, beings which for all rights they would aspire to be if not for their common birth. Reduced to slavery themselves at times to work tword the goal of their master and alot more, their has always been more depth to something in the D&D games then we could probobly give them credit for and the kobobld for the reasons i have uncovered- will forever lie in my top 3.

Dragons. My nickname at Scout Camp is Red Dragon. I just love the strength, power, and depending on the culture, nobility they have.

God.

I kid.

A pheonix or Yog-Sothoth.
There is no picture under my spoiler.
Technically your first answer is one of my favorites. After all, it's not everyday you live in a country where you can find an answer about what your deity looks like in your book, provided you actually read it.*

*Not actually my deity.

Well for me it would either be Jörmungandr, the Kraken, Einherjar (heroes that have reached Valhalla and have been turned into demigods to fight in the Ragnarok), Leviathan or Scylla. Yes, I am very much a fan of giant mythological sea creatures. Up high anyone?

Pickachu. What, not like Pokemon are real, either.

Ok, fine, I'd guess I'm going with a centaur. Always liked the half-human half-animal creatures (centaurs, mermaids, harpies). Something about the familiar with an unexpected twist.

I'm undecided. Western-style dragons are really freaking cool (not a fan of Eastern dragons) but then again, Fenrir, a wolf so terrifying it took Balder himself to try feeding the damn thing and it still took his hand. Then you've got phoenixes and thunderbirds, the kraken, Grendel...

Bah, too many awesome mythical creatures!

Anything that has breasts.

Gorgons, mermaids, harpies; There's just something about being attracted yet at the same time being weirded out by a creature.

I'm also a fan of trolls though. Even before I had the internet.
Gorgons, can turn you to stone you'll have to do it with your eyes closed or doggy style.
mermaids, No problem there.
harpies, the claws would be... interesting.
Trolls , I didn't even know they had breasts
I hope this helped
safe for work.

OP: Dragons I guess, mermaids or the Nemean lion.
