My favourite obscure band is so obscure they don't even have a name. I'm not even sure they realize they're in a band.

Johnny Hollow, a somewhat local band.

PS: I've heard of at least 2/3 of the bands mentioned on this thread so far, even if I'm not familiar with their music. Since my job involves being informed on trends in music, I'm taking that as vindication!

Hannah Schneider? http://www.myspace.com/hannahschneidermusic

or maybe Dreamboat Money? http://www.myspace.com/dreamboatmoney

EDIT: There is something terribly wrong with their myspace page, so here's something else.

Beatallica is pretty obscure. I'm a real hardcore fan.
What would you say is their best album? I've been looking into them, but I can't decide which to get.

Anyway, Racer X. Not super obscure, but still.
Oh really? Well, I would recommend their "first" one Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band since it's kinda like a best of (or at least that's how I'd describe it). Some of their early EPsss are also good, but really, really hard to find.
Alright, thanks. Pretty sure Amazon has that one, so I'll be sure to get it later.

Alestorm, Coheed and Cambria, Korpiklaani, Rage, Sabaton, Static-X.
Those ones aren't that obscure. Not if you're a metalhead anyway. The other ones you mentioned are more so.

OT: Most obscure band I like is Abney Park. I hear they've got a fairly big following in some bits of the US, but they're unheard of here (UK) so I think that counts? Also, recently ive gotten into some obscurish bands my girlfriend showed me. Septic Flesh and Acid Bath anyone? Death metulz :D

Beach House is the band I'm gonna go with for this topic. I mean they make it on to some best of lists, but overall whenever I bring them up in conversation no one else knows who the hell I'm talking about. Which is really frustrating considering they manage to make the world's most beautiful music with a drum machine, casio keyboard, and guitar. Don't believe me just listen to some of their songs.

I approve of this post.
Good to know, I guess. I can only assume you like their musical stylings too, am I right?

personal favourite of many favourites. Guitar Hero 3 didn't do them justice by putting F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X in there as the only song by them.

Takenobu is easily the least well known musician I like, and he's great. Hard to describe his style. Folk/pop, I'd say.

Gordian Knot is great, too. They're also rather hard to classify. Progressive jazz/rock fusion... metal.. and stuff.

Sabaton? I don't really know if they are really obscure. None of the people I know have ever heard of them, but that doesn't always make peolpe obscure. Great band tho.
