I guess my attempts to spread the word about Rabbit Junk to this site is failing, haha. Oh well, let's do this!

GAH. Fuck you, Sony Music Entertainment, for saying people in America can't listen to music from a Seattle band, meaning I can't post my favorite song from them (Old Heroes Young Villains).

Most of us know of one or maybe more bands that aren't wildly successful or well known but are loved and supported by a small but loyal fan base. My question is whether you are a fan of one of this kind of band and if so, who are they?

My choice for this is a local band called InMe. They have been into the top 40 a few times and yet I struggle to find more than a few people who have even heard of them (after 8 years of making albums and touring, they still have less than 4000 likes on facebook(I'm aware this isn't an accurate way of measuring popularity but you get the point.)) They're an alternative/metal band, see below for a demonstration of their awesomedom.

I wouldn't really say they're that obscure...just pretty rubbish.

Thrice. They're very prolific, but still relatively obscure. They are probably one of the most musically talented bands that has ever existed, and I don't say that lightly.

Mr. Jones & The Previous. My mum discovered them in the early 90s and went to their concerts at some underground punk bar (Even though she wasn't really a punk..) and got a few of their CDs. They're pretty darned good, I think. Sadly I can't find any of their stuff on YouTube, but here is an old site they had: http://www.olywa.net/previous/

Swashbuckle! :D

These guys aren't exactly that obscure sounding, but I expect they're kind of limited to their home country. (Australia)

Awesome video.

Baroness are starting to do well, quite Mastodon ish.

And Kylesa, they have two drummers!

Just discovered this band recently. Sound promising.

Finally, some talented Swedes.

They're emo. I have a strong dislike for emos. Just putting it out there.
Their old stuff is post-hardcore, I'll admit. However, their newer stuff leaves all that behind and is amazingly deep and varied. For example, they have a set of EPs called The Alchemy Index, which are 4 discs all about the four classic elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The Earth one is completely acoustic and very folksy, Air is light rock/pop, Water is all digital electronica, and Fire is bordering on metal. It's incredible what they can do, really.

I politely disagree. I could give you lots of names on better "obscure" musicians, who are both technically better, and last but not least, bot emo. No offense.

Oh man, how right you are. I saw them open for Rise Against, and could not get them out of my head. I listen to a lot of music, and they are definitely on my top 5.

Pretty much every TRUE black metal band ever. But in particular Darkthrone, Mayhem and Windir.
What about Satyricon? They're pretty good. I would personally put them above Mayhem. But that's just because Chainsaw Gutsfuck was rather weak.

OT: Anaal Nathrakh is one of my favorite bands, and I know of only two other people that know of them.
And there's also Gallhammer, who make very... Interesting music, to say the least.

Alestorm, Annihilator, Claymore (I know right, same name), Coheed and Cambria, Disarmonia Mundi, Korpiklaani, Rage, Sabaton, Static-X, Waltari.
I LOVE Coheed, with a passion. Never heard of the rest though..

OP: I'm a pretty obscure guy and go out of my way to listen to bands that aren't well known, mostly because I HATE the media, and the whole "popularity" music idea. The music is just terrible!

The most obscure band, however, is probably Bright Eyes. Or Frank Turner. Or Frank Turner's old punk metal band Million Dead. Or City and Colour. I can't choose :p

Fair enough. We're all allowed to have different tastes, I won't force mine on you.
