Red Ryder BB gun when I was about 5. A good way to learn to respect gun safety without any real danger. (No, I did not shoot my eye out.)

EDIT: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. THIS ISNT A THREAD ABOUT GUN RIGHTS! IF YOU DONT WANT ONE THEN FINE! STOP JUDGING THOSE WHO WILL BUY ONE OR ALREADY OWN ONE. Take your opinions to the right place, they will be appreciated and this is not the right thread to start a gun ownership debate.
Gun ownership is a controversial issue, you can't expect to be able to make a topic about it without people saying you shouldn't be able to own them at all.

It would be like making a thread asking "Where did you, or are going to, get your first abortion?" and expecting no-one to comment saying that abortions are wrong.

i HATE guns though. with a passion.
And yet you're in the army reserves.

I'm assuming a non-combat role?
we're a neutral country, fabian. and it's the reserves =P
i joined because i hate guns.
i do that sometimes.
i learned to swim because i was terrified of water, and learned to drive because i hate cars, started modeling because i hate how i look, sang in a band because i hated my voice... et c.

only way i'd join the PDF is as a medic.
[which i wouldnt mind, really, if they'd let me in]

I don't care about people owning guns but I find the comment about how society is progressing to be very narrow minded.

Modern North American society is better then ever. More people have more rights then ever before. Technology has made life easier then ever before. People are healthier and live longer then ever before. Also, people are now safer then ever before.

All in all, the modern society kicks ass.
If you want to get serious then no we are less free than when the British ruled us, I could possibly get fired from a corporate job for saying a female/male coworker is hot, not in a offensive way, just "Yea she is pretty hot" a person can get fired for that, how is that for free speech.
That speech seems to be very free enough. As does the company's right to fire you. You have the right in this country (USA) to say whatever may come to your mind. You do not, however, have the right to dictate peoples reactions to your statements.

...Wait a minute... Aren't we talking about guns here?

If I were to get a gun it would probably be a .22 rifle.

I definitely don't need a handgun while I'm out on the town, but a small rifle to shoot spiders when they get in the house would be useful.
...how big are the spiders where you live? a simple smack with a shoe should be enough to kill them...
You don't understand. I live in Australia. You don't want to be taking chances with anything with eight legs down here.

I'd like eventually come into the ownership of a .357 or .44 magnum and a Winchester 1887. Also, and AK-47 and M4/AR-15. I have NO CLUE about guns prices so i could have just named a good 10k+ worth of guns.

That's what I'm talking about! My favorites are my gerbers.

But soon I shall soon have a much finer collection... once I'm not poor that is...

My first was a Winchester .22.
I'm actually not done restoring it yet.

<spoiler=I want one of these though>http://www.gunreports.com/media/newspics/selector/Taurus_Raging_Bull_444B8_44_left.jpg

First 'gun' was a spring powered BB Gun pistol. Horrible accuracy for anything more than 20 feet away. Fun to play with though.

Well, it's not a "real" gun per se, but it's still considered a gun.

My first gun was a Red Ryder BB rifle (inb4 shoot your eye out kid. I do love that movie though.)

I don't own a "real" gun yet, but that's because I live in a dorm, so I can't have one anyway. When I get my first house/apartment, I might buy a handgun, but I dunno, it's not a priority for me, I don't plan to live somewhere with high crime.

My grandfather on my Dad's side is a big hunting enthusiast, and has tons of rifles and shotguns, but he's smart about it, and keeps them locked up. I've shot a regular old .22 rifle a few times with him.

Basic military training can actually be fun sometimes.
Haha, nice. I've always wanted to fire one of those guns at a firing range.

They are also ineffective at close range since the 'rocket' has to pick up speed.
Actually, this part is a bit of a myth, so to speak.
It was originally thought that they only had a speed of something like 50 feet per second upon leaving the barrel, but when they used new testing equipment, I believe it was more like 300... but it is true that the ammunition's fuel supply fails to fire sometimes :|

My first was a .38 police special. Since then I've not fired that many others, but a .22 rifle, 12 and 10 gauge shotguns, and another .38 have featured.

I think that first .38 special was... well, special.
