City of Heroes for a little while after it launched. I got bored of it after a while since it got repetitive after a certain level, but I loved my character and the customization in it.

I played Puzzle Pirates for about three months back in 2005 at the insistence of my then-wife (we'd been married maybe two months). She wanted us to have something to play together. I found it took way too much time away from games I liked a lot more (like, say, Rome: Total War, or Hearts of Iron 2, my 2005 GotY.)

Small wonder we're not married anymore..."we're both gamers" does not necessarily mean two people have a damn thing in common.

My first MMO (which I actually played online, offline was PSO Ep. 1/2) was called Bright Shadow. It was a pretty average MMO, I suppose, with multiple classes, instances, etc. I say "was" because it's US server support is already gone as of October of last year. It barely even made it out of the MMO starting gate, lasting only 7 months out of beta. Longer lasting than APB, but unlike that, chances are no one will pick up the dev work on this one.

Rune scape, Made about a million pieces of gold a day and had a trading network of people I met in game that made stuff for me to sell. Ah.. merchanting system... epic for it's time. Too bad it's all garbage now.

Runescape and I thought it was brilliant, I still love it but that's partially nostalgia

Ultima Online was my first experience. I remember at the time I was running this beat up computer and I didn't think it'd even work but it did. It was pretty cool playing online with so many people and having all these places to explore, real estate you could buy and a working (somewhat) economy as well. I was pretty impressed although it took *forever* to save up for that first set of plate armor. :(

Does Dark Throne count? Because that wasn't just my first MMO but maybe my first online multiplayer game. Other than that I'd have to go with runescape, then I played WoW (which has been on and off ever since) which I just got back into with a freind (again). I find MMO's fun for a month or so then I tend to find them boring and samey. Their still great games mind.

I was about to say WoW in 2004, but I actually tried Runescape for a bit some years earlier. Didn't like Runescape. WoW got me addicted for couple months, but my interest dropped massively after I made another character with a friend. He was a veteran already then and although he didn't think we were moving fast, the power-leveling feel of it was horrible. It started feeling like a chore. And like I'd have to play for hours before I could really begin "playing".

I played Adventurequest untill I got my first computer, then I started playing Runescape with friends. Now I don't really play MMO's anymore.

Final Fantasy 11. Got into it... I wanna say like 6 months after it was released, so I was a bit behind my friends who had gotten it when it first came out. My computer could barely handle it at times, but I still loved playing it as a Black Mage.

Unfortunately I was kind of forced to quit when everyone stopped taking Black Mages into their parties around level 35, at the peak of the Red Mage hype, and I didn't feel like investing another 100 hours of my life just to level up another job out of necessity.

Huh. No One else here claiming Gemstones or Dragonrealms?

I thought they were more popular back in the day. Doesn't take pictures to be Massive Multiplyer Online, or a Role Playing game.

Ragnarok online. I learned how to be a really good Paladin and knew that system's ins and outs like no one else. Nowadays, I just got into DFO but Ragnarok still holds a place in my heart.

Ultima Online , still the best MMO when it comes to real roleplaying. Then there was Black Moon Chronicles (or was it dark moon?) i enjoyed that one pretty much, liked the comic style it had it suddenly dissappeared dunno what happened. I still got D&D Online , LotrO and WoW and play them sometimes a lil bit. D&D till i get frustrated by the limited exploration, LotrO to roleplay, and WoW to check out the Changes in Cataclysm. But i dont play them that much anymore. Perhaps twice a week.
