I...I, uh, I've [small] never played one. [/small] *BLUSH*

They're just sooo time consuming. I don't want to get addicted. My brother's a full-on Wow junky.

silk road online, good fun game it was have fond memories of it trekking across the wilderness trading in distant lands taking down giant beasts.

even met one of my best friends on there.

Alas it is no longer playable due to inability to get in a server because of bot spamming.

Guild Wars, in it's really early stages. Basically when you'd reached level 20 and weren't that much into PvP you had nothing left to do in the game, so I quit. Tried WoW a bit, liked it, played that for 2,5 years, got bored among other things, and quit about 3 years ago. No more MMO's for me.

Runescape. It was okay, but the user base was generally pretty terrible (and probably still is). Since then, tried these:

Maple Story: Didn't like it. Thought the controls were awkward, and didn't really pursue it

World of Warcraft: Good. Still play it off and on once in a while, but I'm not very good at PvP. Raiding gets repetitive unless you play multiple classes.

City of Heroes/Villains: Okay, but only played the trial. Wasn't bad, but there wasn't much variety (only 5 classes, but lots of visual differences which I do like)

Champions Online: Good. Didn't reach end-game levels, but I did some leveling and group stuff and it was fun. Involved more player input than most MMOs.

Fallen Earth: Did the tutorial, didn't like it. Lagged horrendously, and didn't like the game mechanics. Might've improved since, but I wouldn't know.

Tabula Rasa: Tried a trial, didn't really get into it but it felt pretty solid.

Final Fantasy XI: Like the classes, but the game's too slow and the interface and controls are bad. Would love a version that cloned WoW.

Wanted to try out FFXIV, but I haven't heard anything good about it at all. And DC Universe online comes out in two days, so I want to try that as well :)

Ultima Online. Loved RPGs, liked the Ultima series, so picked this up right away. And hated it. First MMO I semi-liked would be Everquest. First MMO I loved, World of Warcraft. Now none.

Runescape. For some reason every other MMO pales in comparison. Other MMO's are so linear compared to it. Havent played it in years though.

Runescape. I really liked it, even went as far as to bug my sis to pay my membership fee for a few months (didn't have any way of paying it myself back then).

Uh, Dark Ages. An old game that had a class system that was very, very enjoyable looking backing. All of the weapons (including your fists) sounded like the cracking of a whip, though.
I remember playing the trial account, running around after someone brought me through monk school, punching the hell out of everything and grinding for level fifteen. When I finally hit my goal, which would of alloted me enough dexterity points to wear this robe my master had given me, the trial ended and required a subscription (I stopped playing).

Mine was Runescape, truly a good game, but I just played it so much that I killed it for myself.

Then Guild Wars, never really got into that. It was fun an' all, but there wasn't really enough story for me.

Then WoW. Loved it, still do, but A-levels prevent me from playing it. /baww

Started with Runescape, went on to Guild Wars, went back to Runescape, tried a bunch of other free MMORPGs, played Vanilla WoW, tried even more free MMORPGs, played WoW: TBC, tried AoC, WH:AoR and LOTRO, went back to WoW and stayed there until a few months before Cataclysm. Took one hell of a long break from MMORPGs after that.

Currently, I'm questing through post-Cataclysm Azeroth on an Orc shaman. It's fun, but I don't know if I'll buy it. I think I'd rather put my money towards more games. PS2 games and old PC games in particular.

First one was Star Wars Galaxies, pre-SOE destruction. Only played for a few days though as a practise for my real first MMO, Ryzom. It wasn't a bad game, but was a little dull for me. Combat was a little too passive, despite the awesome events done by the game crew.

Then there was City of Heroes. God I love that game. Pure style over function, with every effort made to make you feel like a super hero. This is how MMOs should be made, and I truly wish the industry had copied that instead of WoW.

that is what I eventually realized, and why i don't play MMO's anymore. almost all of them are grindbased, leaving you at the end feeling like 'wow, why did i spend all these hours doing this?'
I think a lot of the grinding is based on your mentality. I play City of Heroes for fun and although I do only have two top level characters I got there enjoyably hunting down people close to sharp drops and punching them in the face. Then again took me a lot longer than a year to get those two because people so rarely admire the views from rooftops and cliff faces.

OT: First MMO I ever played was Adventure Quest but not really sure it stood up on the multiplayer part of MMO

I don't think I ever dabbled in Runescape but instead moved straight up into City of Heroes partially by accident.
