Counter-Strike: Condition Zero.
Played it at an Internet cafe a lot when I was about 13. Loved it. :D

In the same room: Either super mario all-stars w/ super mario world on the SNES or Ms. Pacman on SNES, both with my sister. We used to try to get at each other in the original Mario Bros. game in super mario brothers 3. We pretty much played all those games and pacman together. All I can describe is that they were fun.

Online: I think Halo 3. It was tense for me. I became good enough to Kill the enemy VIP 4 times in under a minute with one life before they could even find ours. I thought that was good considering I don't even play online.

In any game, What game did you first experienced the competitive side of a Game?
Pong :)
It was 1989-1990, when my mom bought me an Atari 2600-ish thing.
At pretty much the same time, my friend got a Commodore 64 and we used to duke it out in "International Karate".

I feel old now.

First online multiplayer game I ever played was Halo 2. The first online multiplayer game I ever owned for myself was Call of Duty: World at War.

My first ever multiplayer games was Super Mario Bro 3 on the NES but if you meant competitive play then it was probably Mario Party or 007 Goldeneye. First online experience was the original Counterstrike.

Excluding playing games with my brother I guess playing Unreal Tournament online did give me a scent of online multiplayer when I was playing team deathmatch and I was leading my team since I had the most kills in that level.
Not sure if this count but my first multiplayer that isn't my brother was a few mates playing Mario kart during a friend birthday party.

After school library LAN parties in 1999. We played Tribes 2, with and without mods. Debris is a *****.

My first local multiplayer experience in a game was with Tetris on the original Gameboy using a link cable. First online'd probably be Starcraft.

My first multi-player game with friends was a LAN game of Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith. We had great fun with that game.

My first online Multi-player game was Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

I think there might be a pattern.

I think Tribes 2, or maybe the Tribes franchise itself is a very, very underlooked game. I hope when Tribes: Ascend releases. Everyone should have praised Tribes in the first place. Lol

Offline - goldeneye
Online Counter Strike 1.3

Good times.

I still play Counter Strike 1.6 religiously and I can't wait for Global Offensive.

Offline... various arcade cabinets. Couldn't say what the first one was. Possibly TRON. I remember a lot of lightcycle matches.

Online... text-based BBS MUDs, some time in the early 90s. I honestly can't recall the names of any of 'em. There were a lot.

Familiar with TRON on Vectrex?

I MIGHT have played Battle Toads, but my brain could be repressing those memories. I know for a fact my brother and I enjoyed Battle Toads Double Dragon quite a bit. We might've played Double Dragon, but I don't immediately recall that one, either.

First one that I can actually remember? This is online of course, since the first offline game I ever played would be Super Mario Bros, and that would be boring as an answer.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.

I was a monster at that game.

I'm sure I've played others before this, I just can't remember any.

If you don't mean online that would be playing as luigi on Super Mario Bros on the NES. Luigi was better his fireballs were green man.

Otherwise... I'm not 100% sure but I think it was either Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (orcs are the best!) or Deadlock: Planetary Conquest (go Cyth!). Not sure which one came out first. It was awesome on both fronts. I think i started playing them simultaneously. I remember it was on dial up and every time one of my (many) brothers picked up the phone I'd lose the connection and get all sorts of pissed off.

I kind of want to play Deadlock 2 now.

What ever happened to complex turn based strategy is that still a thing outside of Civ series?
