EDIT: Zelda games aren't RPGs.

I remember back in the day. I got a PS1 for my birthday from my brother. And got a subscription to something called "Playstation Underground", that came with demo discs. One day, I played a demo for a game called Grandia. And I was fucking hooked. I still maintain that it is the SINGLE GREATEST example of a turn based battle system ever, and indeed, one of the greatest RPGs of ALL TIME!
[HEADING=2]OF ALL TIME![/HEADING]

The voice acting is cringe-worthy, though. But what VA wasn't back then, eh? But it had a theme that it's sequels would never match. I never forgot this song, from the time I first heard it. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of adventure.

I don't know... sadly I don't think I really played any until a lot later on in my life. So my answer is probably Oblivion. I feel likewise about it.

You should try Shining Force I and II for sega. You'd have to find a Rom for it but it ranks up there with Grandia.

Morrowind was my first real RPG. It's still my number one game of all time.

I. Love. Morrowind. With the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Seriously, as someone who grew up on linear games, such a wide-open game, with so few limitations on what you could do, well... it was fucking unprecedented.

Oblivion was my first and longest time spent on an rpg. Saved me from many a mental breakdown. Damn those whisps and imperial guards.

Mine was probably Super Mario RPG for the SNES. Such tasty goodness... I had never encountered anything resembling an RPG before that point.

Technically i'd say Black & White and my mom freaked because she thought RPGs were satanic... and a god simulation didnt help. Meh i still love the game.
Then i'd say morrowind was the final straw got me hooked into RPGs.

Actually, they're all on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3/360. It also has Shining in the Darkness, too.

The TES Construction Set can remove alot of those limitations - I only had linearity before it as well; It was especially profound when i realised i could leave Seyda Neen without smacking my head into an invisible wall
