Link's Awakening, on the good ol' b&w gameboy.

Took me some time to figure this one out.
I think the LOZ games are more adventure games vs RPG, as there isn't too much RPing.

My first RPG, well if you count poke'mon then that, if not Ogre Battle 64. You could argue Ogre Battle 64 was just an adventure game, but you did get to make plenty of choices, and you could imagine yourself the buff guy with blue hair and badass fighting skills (I wish I had natural blue hair, I would be the shit!).

Mine was Morrowind - At the time i thought it was absolutely awesome - I still play it sometimes. Sometimes.
Morrowind was my first real RPG. It's still my number one game of all time.

I. Love. Morrowind. With the fiery passion of a thousand suns. Seriously, as someone who grew up on linear games, such a wide-open game, with so few limitations on what you could do, well... it was fucking unprecedented.
The TES Construction Set can remove alot of those limitations - I only had linearity before it as well; It was especially profound when i realised i could leave Seyda Neen without smacking my head into an invisible wall
Yeah, I remember that sense of amazement walking through the mist. And then some short man with an ugly hat did a 1000 foot swan dive next to me. That solidified Morrowind as the best game evaaaaarrr. Something as random and irrelevant as this happening only added to the sense of wonder and freedom I had. AWESOME.

Also, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I mostly used the construction set to deck myself out in all the legendary named items.

I used the CS to build a 25 story underground base, with a small army of followers... I still improve that place daily.

idk. The 3D does. But the prerender backgrounds always look nice. That was my first FF, and my favorite. Never did beat it, though. I got Ragnarok (BEST. AIRSHIP. EVER.), got sidetracked. Took a break for a few days. Never went back...

FF1 was my first RPG, but the first one that i was good at was Super mario, and the number of colored stars on the SNES, and earthbound, i don't remember which of the 2 for the SNES was first.

If Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past qualifies as an RPG instead of an adventure game, than that particular Zelda.

If not, Baldur's Gate. That got me hooked at western RPGs and I soon followed with Fallout 1&2 and got the Chrono Trigger for the SNES; that made me fall in love with JRPGs for several years.

You want to talk way back?
I can't even remember what my first RPG was.
It was either Ultima on the NES, Miracle Warriors on the SMS, or Phantasy Star on the SMS.

Phantasy Star being my favorite of the time. These were the first open world games and (for the time) they were awesome. In fact, I recommend anyone with a DS pick up the Phantasy Star trilogy GBA cart. If just for Phantasay Star 2.

I think it was Final Fantasy Awesome, AKA Final Fantasy 6, AKA Final Fantasy 3.
Might have been Star Ocean though, I'm not sure.
Might have been something entirely different that I've just forgot about.
It's a long time ago.

I think the first one that REALLY pulled me in was Pools of Radiance. I played that game for hours and hours. I played Wizardry and Ultima before that, but Pools was just awesome to me at the time.
