I do it cause they would kill me in an instant. Especially those blasted spiders and bees/hornets/horseflys.

However when I see a roach my first thought is Shit I need to clean more

The only time I've seen one was in a hotel room in Australia and I just thought 'Oh Christ, this fucker's gonna take ages to mash...'

And it did.

I do it because I can't stand bugs. I just hope they never come into contact with nuclear waste because then they would become huge and then squish us and get revenge for killing their relatives....I've thought about this a little too much.

Its pretty much ok to kill most insects because their so unintelligent that death isn't even a concept their minds can comprehend. Also because they look gross and spread disease.

Would A young child with no concept of death that is ugly looking and has a contagious disease count as well?

The insect is an unwelcome guest within our homes. It contributes nothing to us, but takes from us. We gave it no permission to do so. So it must die!

Yes.

I do it so the roach doesn't burrow behind my eye and lodge itself deep within my cortex or my frontal lobe.
Well, either that or so they don't crawl in my mouth while I sleep. I never kill insects if they're outside.

Obviously a child doesn't count. A child can't burrow into my brain.

Can it?

First time I see a roach I will probably be hitting it with my crowbar, most likely destroying some furniture in the process, as they dont live around my area. As for other insects, as long as they dont trespass in my living space, they are fine. Spiders are welcome since they help to control other insect issues, until they try to make a home behind my monitor or pc.
As for insects spreading disease: not that many actually do, and it will mostly be the ones who act as parasites: mosquitoes, biting flies, fleas, and a few others. Ants might but there are plenty other reasons to keep them out of your house beyond just that. Either way, if you keep your home clean, the bugs will look elsewhere to settle.

Killing an insect is a reflex instinct from when they still posed a threat to us. Such as from when they actually spread disease. Now all they can do is hide in horrible restaurants and disgust people.

Ok, here's another question: what about mice? I could never kill a mouse - I've had a couple in my house before and I always caught them or otherwise shoo'd them outside somehow.

my first thought usually goes something like this, and is immediately sent to my vocal chords without any mental filtering first:

"JEEEEZUS CHRIST!! KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!!!"

I think it's a territorial thing. We don't want unwelcome creatures in our living spaces, plain and simple. Plus they're so freakin' creepy!

I usually try to trap the insect with a glass and a bit of paper and "release it to the wild" (or the toilet, whichever one is nearer).
However, I have to admit, I don't do it because I'm such a nature activist but because I want to avoid stains... icky, sticky stains.

Anyway, insects and spiders are sickening to us, it's primal, there was a time when they actually were dangerous to us. Well, even today they still can be. Think Africa. There's plenty of deadly stuff there.
