Your first time on the Internet.

What was it like? Awe-inspiring? What site/sites did you visit? Did you find it confusing? Scary? Interesting? What was your first time on the internet like?

I wasn't very old when it came about, and the oldest thing I remember is my brother playing runescape (12 at the time, so no harsh comments). But my parents told me that the first time they got the internet, they intentionally googled "Porn" to see what came up.. The pop ups didn't stop for about 15 minutes..

Also, include how long ago this was (if you remember). It's ok if it was only recently, some people around the world still don't believe the internet has caught on.

I did a search on Altavista for "Fiat 1608 twin cam timing" because I couldn't get the timing right on my 125. Then I looked for porn. It was 1994.

All I remember was that there was this one page or something, where you could put a buncha cartoon pictures in and design them...
Then my sis introduced me to Runescape XD

1996. Think I tried visiting the Mad Magazine website (hey, I liked it at the time!)

25 minutes later, I was still waiting for the splash page to load. Wondered what all the fuss was about. (That was at the incredible speed of 8-12kbps, btw.)

1997. Found Excite! Virtual Places chat. Was tons of fun, actually. First good introduction to the awesome power of the internet(s).

I was watched very closely by my stepfather as I looked for information about North Dakota for a school project. It wasn't until a few years later that I was allowed to browse the net.

I can't remember at all. It probably had something to do with flash games, though. I imagine I would have been about 6 when I first internetted.

It was for schoolwork. And I had to pick older sites, because we were on dial-up and couldn't deal with big images.

It took me ages to realise there were more fun sites than National Geographic on the internet (mind you, I still read National Geographic every time I come across an edition )

First time? First time i remember being on the internet was for school in the seventh grade. Don't really remember much about it, just remembered having to do it for some reason or another. I was pretty good with computers back then, good at research and all that, so I figure I was on it earlier.

Looks like it's one of the repressed memories... no surprise there...

The first time, I was researching the American civil war. At the age of 7. I don't really know why I had a school project like that, especially since I'm Australian. Then the second time was to check out the website of my then-favourite author. She also had an online forum, which I joined.

I was visiting a friend at a technical university and he took me to one of the computer labs and showed me this cool thing where he could type to people in other parts of the world and get answers immediately, lika a chat. Then he showed me lots of interesting newsgroups. This was in 1989. WWW had not yet been invented.

I started with anatomy research, I mean com on, you are going through puberty and all the anatomy you want at the touch of your fingers! Ok granted it was dial up so at the touch of your finger + 1/2 and hours US (that is 2/4 hour EU). I did set up my parent email and visit some flash sites (newgrounds ect)but it had yet to blossom into what it is today.

Had an email adress and used to go on the game sites constantly. But this was back when I had 56k and took 10 mins just to load a very small flash game

I think I was playing on like Hallpass or something. I used to love that website so much. That or it was flashflashrevolution.com, I remember specifically my sister showing me that 'site, and then getting me addicted to it for a good two months.
