Finish Red Dead Redemption 2 (only now finishing chapter 4) and take it from there. I only got Horizon Zero Dawn recently but I don't know if I'd be up for another open world so soon. I'm also working to Platinum some of my PS3 backlog.

Got it for Christmas a couple of years back. Still never touched it. Maybe one to play with the girlfriend?
I think so. Decision-based "It's like a movie!" games seem to go well with couples in general.

For what it?s worth H:ZD?s open world is much more manageable and well, playable than RDR2?s. I like love both games, but the disparity is clear. Horizon?s world feels more like a dino-bot bunting playground, while Rockstar?s latest is something to marinate in, no matter how small or trivial the details at hand are. Aloy also controls like a dream next to the sack of bricks and mortar Morgan.

Having said that, both are exceptionally detailed games, but the aim is very different for each.

I would say yes. Despite being single-player it functions great as a party game.
Yup, I played it with 2 other friends. We each picked a couple of characters to control and tossed the controller around whenever the character changed. It was quite a bit of fun, especially during the parts where the controlling player could fuck over other characters.

Currently playing Hollow Knight. I'm usually not much for a cartoony art style (I like realistic), and I probably haven't played a platformer in 20 years, but it's a lot of fun. I can see why it received such lofty review scores, from both critics and gamers.

Next up...

Salt and Sanctuary - While I'm on the 2D Soulslike/Metroidvania kick, think I'll go ahead and play this next. Picked it up the other day in the Steam Sale for $9.

Nioh - Another popular Soulslike.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Really looking forward to Miyazaki's latest creation. Releases March 22.

Will play at some point...

Endless Space 2
Grim Dawn: Forgotten Gods xpac
(Q1 2019)
Warcraft III: Reforged (later this year)

Keeping an eye on these future 2019 releases, but will check out the reception and research them more post-release before deciding whether to buy or not...

Anthem (February 22)
Phoenix Point (June 2019)
The Outer Worlds
Hellpoint

Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Honestly, I feel like this game is on its last legs. It's been going on for a while and seems to just be wallowing in low player numbers. I've heard some great things about some of the story paths, especially the Imperial Agent, so I've decided I need to put on my big boy pants and do them before the game shuts down. Especially as a Star Wars fan. I'm currently doing the Sith Warrior, which I've done before and enjoyed immensely. Such a stereotypical amazing Sith Star Wars tale. After that I'll do the Smuggler and who know's what after.
You really should, it's worth it. As of 2016, i would still have described it as one of the best MMOs around. It's picked up a few problems since however. First, it's now so easy that there's not even a pretence of challenge left in the game. Your companions are so powerful that they can solo Elite mobs while you stand there watching. Second, after all the server merges I think the population is settled now. It's okay, but it's not great. The usual issue of mid-level team content being hard to team for is present. Third, the endgame seems to now comprise farming lootcrates. Fourth, the class storylines stop at 50. All the expansions thereafter play the same, with some variation depending on Republic/Sith.

Saying all that, I'd still recommend it. The F2P is so horrible that paying really is preferable just to make the horrible things stop. But if you sub for 3 months, you can take your time with a couple of characters, one on each side and get a feel for them both. Agent is (was) my *main* I suppose. My first character and the one I've played most. It has by far the best storyline, and most fans will put it down to one reason; not being a prior SW archetype, they had to come up with something *gasp* original!!! Originality, in STAR WARS! The Agent storyline is one of espionage, double crossing, betrayal, infiltration, subterfuge and all that great stuff you'd find in any espionage thriller. The class is also a lot of fun to play, with either a stealh/healer class or sniper path. It also has the most endings of all storylines, with up to four possible endings I believe (there was a fifth that never made it out of beta!). It's the only class where your actions in Act 1 or in Act 2 could properly affect the ending.

I'd advise against Smuggler on the republic side if you're gonna go Agent sith side, mostly because they are mirrors of each other. While the story will be different (and not in the same league), the character will be the same. You could go stealth one side and sniper the other I suppose (I did that), but it's also cool to roll a jedi character on one side or the other. The stories are a bit mediocre/predictable, but being Obi Wan is cool too. Also, Trooper can be good fun and has probably the next best questline.

If you're EU region/timezone and would be interested in company, I've been thinking of revisiting for a while and could be a healer to your tank/DPS, or tank to your healer. It means all content, group and solo is open to you, and you'd get to see a second class storyline alongside your own. (A tank/healer duo never wait for any dungeon, ever). MMOs are more fun with company, so the offer's there if you like :) (I believe I'm on Darth Malgus server.)

Dark Messiah: Of Might and Magic.

I've actually already finished one playthrough of this game, just need to do my second, evil one. This is one hell of a game with the most sexist, generic fantasy writing I've ever encountered. I love every gods damn second of it. But the gameplay is the best. I never thought kicking would be the most amazing attack in a game.
Great game, one of my favourites. Apparently the kick was one of those lucky accidents, where they realised they'd inadvertently made the "weakest" attack so OP, and instead of nerfing it, they embraced it and covered the maps with spikes, drops and so on. I genuinely cannot understand how we never got a follow up (direct or indirect) in this world. It was every bit as rich and fun as any DnD campaign setting, offered plenty of lore to offer great magic/warrior abilities, world building and storytelling. I know it's a strategy franchise, but DMoMaM shows the world absolutely supports satisfying FPS gameplay and storytelling.

It's definitely one of the games fun to replay every now and then. Well made, great gameplay, immersive and fun.

Well surprisingly I?ve gotten through nearly half my list. However instead of focusing on the others I?ve kinda gotten back into MGS4. Not sure how long I?ll stick with it but I really do like the first couple Acts at least. Then I might go back to finish MGSV even though its own second ?act? is apparently a more difficult remix of earlier missions. The gameplay is what brings me back more than anything.

In an ideal world I?d like to play through the following this year:

-Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC: Frozen Wilds (will possibly start tonight. Loved the main game with its mechanics feeling butter smooth and looking/sounding drop dead gorgeous, and have heard good things of the extra content.)

-Red Dead Redemption 2 (started but only at the end of chapter 2. Love the attention to detail, and how much there is to explore. Probably have around 20 hours in and haven?t even thought of the main storyline much, which says a lot about how the game?s world itself has drawn me in.)

-Dark Souls 3 (started but only at the High Wall area. Loving the weapon arts. The modifier feels so smooth and analogous on the trigger button, especially with stance changes. I?ve been spoiled with Bloodborne?s unique weapon selection and move sets, so am hoping this makes up for the more...standard Souls variety of arms.)

-The Witcher 3 (started) and have done a decent amount of side questing but am only near the end of the Bloody Baron as far as main quests. At least I think so, as he?s helping fulfill his end of the deal we made. So far it?s an interesting narrative and most of the quests feel worthwhile with limited fetchiness.)

-Kingdom Come: Deliverance (started, but only a few quests in. Mostly doing side stuff and exploring to get better gear. I really like how immersive it is, and how nuanced and detailed the combat can be. Even the highly involved potion crafting system is a process that requires both knowledge and skill. Finding treasures is pretty thrilling because it usually means better equipment or enough gold to buy some. The side quests also feel pretty organic, but one I?m on now involving picking flowers for a recipe put me off a bit.)

-Mad Max (Started and should be close to Gas Town soon. Excellent implementation of car and melee combat coupled with Havok physics yields some hard hitting fun. Does get repetitive but it?s detailed enough for me to stay interested.)

-Mafia 3 (Started but am only a few missions in. Great storyline but that about all that would keep me playing. The general gameplay is decent; especially the gunplay and melee options, but you can tell they had trouble in development. I?m actually glad the AI is easy to cheese because I probably wouldn?t have the patience for a play through otherwise.)

Finished RDR2, HZD, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, Okami HD and RE4 HD.
Wish RE4 HD had more trophies. There're only 12 trophies, as opposed to the customary 51, and no Plat to boot.
Now I'm currently finishing GoW 2018. Working towards Plat. Already Platted every other game in the series.
Next up I'm torn between Nioh and Bloodborne. I know both are Souls games, essentially (Nioh from a different dev) but I've only played Demon's Souls so it's not like I'm holding them to some kind of standard.
Other backburner games in stock: Arkham Knight, Shadow of War, inFamous Second Son, Evil Within 2, No Man's Sky.
Also the whole MGS collection but I don't have a death wish just yet.

There are some unique, story missions to Act V, but a lot of them are remixes of earlier missions. The final mission(the Man who sold the world) is hidden until you achieve certain citeria(do all the yellow missions, listen to all the yellow tapes, rescue all the kids, IIRC) and Cloaked in Silence is the closest thing to an actual ending the game really has.

Since 2018 is pretty much over(thank god), pretty much all the GOTY/Top 10 lists are out by this point and a new year is quickly approaching, I'm gonna go ahead and ask: What games are you planning on playing this coming year?

They don't have to be games being released in 2019. Backlogged games or games you just haven't gotten around to picking up yet are also fair game.

For me, the list goes something like this:

-Horizon Zero Dawn-Ended up being a really good game. I started the Frozen Wilds but never really finished it. Maybe someday I'll go back and finish it up.

-Assassin's Creed Odyssey-I have a whole other thread on this topic, but suffice it to say I both like and resent it. Mostly because the DLC is dropping in chunks, so even though I've finished the base game and the 1st DLC and invested way more then 100 hours in it so far, I'm still not done with it because the final DLC chapter won't be out until next week. Once that's done, then I'll be able to say I'm done with it.

-Mutant Year Zero.

-Gris-Was much what I expected but I liked it. It had more interesting platforming then I was anticipating.

-Outer Worlds

-Kentucky Route Zero Act V.

-God of War.

-Red Dead Redemption.

-Either Pillers of Eternity or Divinity:Original Sin. Both are apparently good but different from each other. Both have an apparently even better sequel as well.
Ended up getting sidetracked a bit.
-Wandersong-A cutesy take on RPGs/Fantasies built around singing but I really liked it.
-Event Zero- A game about wandering around a retro looking space station and using a text parser to talk to an AI. Cool idea, execution was ok.
-Far: Lone Sails-A cute game that comes across as more of a soothing roadtrip with some puzzle solving. GOod for the 2 hours it took to play it.

Started Hollow Knight last year, stopped playing to start AC Origins and finally came back to it. Definitely near the end now and now It's pretty much fighting dream bosses to get enough essence to awaken the dream nail to I can get the true ending.

After that, I have a couple more games I want to play for the next few months
Sea of Solitude
Trials of Mana
Bravely Default
Castlevania Collection
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D
Outer Wilds
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
No idea which order I'm going to tackle these in. But yeah, no chance of finishing this list this year.
