I have a nasty habit of reading a game's story before playing it for myself because I always think that I'll never get a chance to play them anyways(I'm an unemployed High school Student), I regret spoiling the story of the walking dead game , the story of Saya no Uta, The ending of persona 3, red dead redemption and bio shock 2.

I was a young child when I had a Gamecube. It had a modest collection of 20 games to go along with it, including some worthy titles like Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Super Smash Bros. Melee. When I heard news of new game systems coming out, I decided to trade in my old collection of games to get the money for a new system....at Gamestop. Yeah....you can see where I am going at with this, right? Basically: Had awesome games, traded them in at Gamestop, got a crappy return value and I am kicking myself over it ever since.

So Escapists, what gaming regrets do you have?

Holy crap, are we the same person? That's EXACTLY what I did as a kid!

Similar strain, I borrowed Skyward Sword from the same friend. Got insanely frustrated fighting the first boss (Ghirahim), all advice I could get was "just be random and wave your mote around" and didn't get anywhere. Gave the game back on a thought that the game was too much of a Wii Motion Plus gimmick (I am still right), wish I could've at least finished it.
Ironically, I stopped playing the game because of the pseudo-stealth missions with instant-K.O. enemies. They got old fast, and I didn't have the patience to keep trying, especially with all the backtracking you had to do to get to them. So, what I'm trying to say is that the game has a few other problems other than gimmick controls...It was an interesting idea, mind you, just didn't see why they didn't map the sword-swing to a second analog st-ooooh...

OT: Gaming regrets...actually, I did the same thing you did, so that's definitely one of them. Another is letting my cousin hold the N64 remote and he deleted my DK64 save f-wait, that's already in this thread to, just with a different game. Okay, well, I swore off kid-friendly games as a teen and contributed to the grim-dark attitude of the industry today...? Is that a gaming regret? Well, I guess so. I missed out on a lot of otherwise great games...

Simular to the OP. Bought myself a PS3 and decided to trade in some of my 360 games for PS3 games. Took 20 or something, plus ten PS2 games, and went to Game. Hardly got shit for it and could pick four used games for the money. Friend of mine gave me tips on which games to take.
All of them sucked arse and neither had any trophies, so I haven't completed any of them even today(been over four years). When I got home I immedietly wanted to replay some of the games I had sold. Got no clue why I didn't say no to the cashier, took my games and left. Haven't bought or sold any used games since. Fuck that market.

Also bought games a few times after waiting for months for the price to drop even further. Two times the price has dropped significantly the next day and a few times the same week. Feels so fucking awful.

Similarly, I sold my PS1 and the entire game library I owned for it (which wasn't that much, but still) to buy a PS2. I don't know If I truly regret it, cause if I didn't I wouldn't have been able to buy a PS2 for a long time to come, but at the time I figured I wouldn't miss it since the PS2 was the bigger, better deal. Little did I know...

I regret wasting money on every limited edition I have ever bought with the exception of Gears of War 2. Not because the games were bad, but because what you get for the extra money is worthless to somebody like me who doesn't collect gaming things.

The only reason Gears of War 2 is an exception is because for some reason it only cost £4/$6 higher than the normal version.

Me too, I'll spoil myself pretty much every game I think I'll never get around to playing... and when I do, well, if it's an amazing game I'll regret it.

not being carefull enough with my SNES hardware. my brother managed to loose our controllers and I don't think it works all that well anyway anymore. What I would give to goof off with super mario world every now and then.

And more specifically, only depending on autosave in commando's 2 men of courage, only to have it corrupted half way into the final mission. I didn't cry, but it came close....

I did the same thing, but I traded in my Gamecube for an original Xbox back in the day. Luckily, Gamecubes are really cheap these days.

Not buying used games earlier. I remember ignoring the big bin of used N64 games in gamestop. When I finally did start buying them, they were soon gone. Managed to nab Goldeneye and Mystical Ninja, but I would have bought so many more.

Recently,

Although I traded in all of them I kinda regret paying full price and wasting my time and money playing these big "AAA" games on or shortly after release, Homefront, Brink, Rage, Mass Effect 3 and Crysis 3. I'll be honest, I didn't learn the first time nor the second time but finally and ironically (considering it's my favourite series this-gen), Mass Effect 3 was really the... (no pun intended), Catalyst for me... (pun totally intended), because as a Mass Effect fanboy I was really excited for ME3 and I honestly thought they would take all the best elements of ME1 and ME2 and make the final installment the best one... We all know how that one ended, or didn't end.

Anyway after the whole ending debacle ME3 kinda forced me to re-evaluate my role as a consumer. Nowadays I hardly ever buy games Day-1, I'll read 10+ reviews before I make a decision or maybe wait a week or two until any serious game breaking issues arise.

TLDR: I regret buying stuff Day-1

Heh, I have a strange habit of not giving BioWare my money, and it all started with ME1. At the time I didn't even know that game even existed, even though I had bought and played every BW game ever made beforehand. So, whilst killing time at the local Gamestop (think it was called EB Games at the time) I decided to pick up a copy because "hey, it's fucking BioWare! One of my favorite developers" (hint: not anymore), and while at the check out the sales clerk offered me a deal on a pre-owned copy that I couldn't refuse. Got it home, played it, thought it was fucking awesome.

Fast-forward a year after ME2's release. Life had got in the way, so by the time I was able to get back to my regularly scheduled habit, I could only get a used copy of the game. Needless to say, I was disappoint with the direction BW had taken the game. Retconning or outright removing some of my favorite aspects of the first to follow in GOW's footprints. For shame.

By the time of ME3's release, I had been following nearly everything about its development since its announcement. At this point I was pretty sure BioWare didn't even know what the fuck they were doing anymore (suspicion confirmed), but I was curious. So, when the game dropped I did the only sensible thing I could... used some of my Gamestop credit to basically "buy" the game for free. Win/win! I did enjoy the game for the most part, though I still would have preferred it if they had just spit shined the formula they created in the first game all those years ago. I also got to witness firsthand that monumental flop of an ending so I could be Mr. Current Affairs for once.

So, the last time BioWare actually got any money form me directly was for Jade Empire.

Edit: Forgot to be relevant to the topic.

Um, I regret buying my Xbox 360. Wished I had just rebuilt my PC back then instead.

I regret the majority of my PS2 collection, buying Uncharted 2 instead of Brutal Legend back when they both came out, and not spending more money on lesser-known games with superior content as opposed to intensely-hyped, boring, flashy garbage.
