Do you find there to be any "unimportant" aspect in games that you just need for it to "feel right"? It sometimes affects your buying habits or changes your perception of whether a game was good?

For me, for example, I am an outright graphics whore fiend. Many people complain that graphics are unimportant in the grand scheme of a game, but I prefer games that throw millions of lush details into my face over those with a minimalist approach, and it doesn't "feel right" unless I can max out all the graphics options (to the point where I can stand slideshow action). It's silly and maybe a bit damaging, but it's me.

How about you?

Linearity will turn me off faster than waving a picture of Don Mossi [http://images.google.com/images?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS274&q=don+mossi&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=xUDeSs6pJoOOswPyu6XmDw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBQQsAQwAA] will turn off a naked woman.

You've got to give me a sandbox, preferably a very customizable one.

For some reason, I look more heavily at games rated M. I'm not sure why I'm more inclined to buy M rated games, might have something to do with a childish pride at being old enough to buy it now, so if I get carded I can smirkingly say that I was born more than 17 years ago.

That or the idea that, to me at least, M rated games tend to be more developed since it doesn't feel like the developers have as many creative restrictions. I realize this is probably bupkus since a substantial portion of my games aren't rated M, but the idea still sticks somehow.

platforming games are my crack. preferably the slightly non-linear ones(you can choose the order you do the levels, but you have to do all/alot of them to win the game, and 100% compleaton gets you something extra.).

Reinforcing my female stereotype here, but..

I'll buy any adventure/action game where riding a horse is part of the gameplay. Zelda, Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin's Creed...

I don't know if this is going to make an sense, but Atmosphere.

If a game sucks me in and you can almost "feel" it, I can forgive flaw after flaw.

I think mine would be sound in general, and music in particular. A good soundtrack can lend a great deal character and atmosphere to a game, and sadly seems to be an often overlooked aspect. The right theme, the right voice acting, the right sound effect, can help maintain and build a greater level of immersion and emotional investment than would exist without them, and when badly done they can ruin it just as well.

Sound like a city of heroes player! If you haven't played, check out the character customization.

I like games to have jump button. Even if the game doesn't need it. I always wish I could jump in games where I can't.

I would say any game that is as far away from tring to be a "Console" game is one that I will buy.

I tend to only really be interested in games if there is some sort of imperfection in it somehow. You know? Like, I couldn't like Mirror's Edge no matter how much I tried because of all those clean lines and it's sharp clean name. Bullet Witch I bought and played through and enjoyed because it is sort of imperfect at every level which I just find more satisfying.

Awww yeah. I just realized this week I am a total whore for these games. It was probably around my 1000 death in I Wanna Be The Guy, and I was still having tons o fun.

Freedom.
Weather that is open ended worlds or game play, customizable characters, or character progression.

I not longer buy shooters without any of the above, andd games in general really.

I agree. I've been spoiled by a verity of open-world or similar games, and now I've gotten a bit sick of being strung along like a dog going for a walk.

I spent hours doing the side jobs in Fable 2. I could not get enough of it. Me and my roommate spent ages yelling "THAT'S HOW YE MAKE A BLAYUD (because they don't say "blade")!" at each other while I did it.

Also, customisation. Aaaaaaany customisation. If I could, I would play a custom character over custom levels against custom enemies to save a custom objective from a custom big evil to take home to my custom home. I'd still be pissed off that I couldn't change the colour of the sky or something...
