Conservatism is awesome! Thatcher kicked ass, if it was labor in at the time the Falklands would be Argentinian, and looked stylish doing it.
Unions ruined the country.... because of them ships get built in France now and cars in central Europe.
Unions had there place before the second world war but now they are a bane to business.
I think there are lots of angry miners who would like a word with you.
Thatcher fought the Falklands war because the swell of patriotism around it allowed her to win reelection. Labour would have done the exact same in her position, and recent history has proven they're not exactly averse to war.
The unions had gone way too far, and are partly responsible for the current malaise in British maufacturing. However, Thatcher must shoulder some blame for ushering in the era of deregulation in the financial sector that led to the economic crisis. Obviously, the current Labour administration are to blame as well for doing nothing to turn the tide.
Those angry miners should have had their world with Scargill, he became a facist leader within the union movement, refusing to let the miners make their own decisions, and showed himself willing to throw their lives away for the sake of his own vendetta against Thatcher. You can't let a man like that win, and if the miners were unwilling to disown him, then it's sad but unavoidable they had to suffer what they did for him to be defeated.
My current government (Irish) the blasphemy law (though the wording of it is so vague that it's unlikely to be very ineffective and rarely used, the idea of it alone is worrying), and the absolute corruption and incompetence of the main party, Fianna Fail, who we won't be able to get rid of for another 4 years despite the whole country hating them so much that their candidates for the upcoming local elections are afraid to come canvassing door-to-door.
