I've always thought the idea of a guilty pleasure is a bit of a wierd one. You are simultaneously saying that there is something enjoyable about it, but it is also bad. Surely if you enjoy it (in an unironic way, and not a so bad its good way) then it can't be that bad.

Otherwise, generally being an indie person, I consider heavy metal a bit of a guilty pleasure. On the other hand, looking at my above point, I can't deny that some of it isn't good, so I'm not sure what the grounds for guilt are appart from inconsistencies in my self-stereotyping.

For some reason, I tolerate badly written fanfiction. This is probably because I was once one of those poor, foolish fools. That's a year of my life I'm never getting back.

I see what you're saying there, but if you think about me in a group of other people who listen to metal music, and they search my iPod and find Elton John, David Bowie and other assorted artists, i'd get ridiculed to no end, thus why i don't really tell people about the fact that i like them

Watching Spongebob Squarepants. That is my guilty pleasure, and it's awesome!
Also sitting down with a tube of ice cream and a spoon in front of the TV. (I should really be quite fat due to this, but somehow I'm not. Yay metabolism!)

So Spongebob Squarepants + ice cream for maximum semi-guilty pleasure time. Om nom nom.

I really really really like to have a cup of coffee and maybe a cinnamon bun. Like really.

It's like, I get all happy inside when it is time to coffee break and sit down. But maybe it is just me who thinks I'm acting gay. Which I am not. Not because there is something wrong with that. But I like women. And tits.

Porn. What self respecting man would deny it.
What self-respecting man would call it a guilty pleasure eh?

OT: Big Macs. I spend most of my life making fun of McDonald's but hey, I like them crazy burgers.

Fuck those guys. Elton John was my first ever gig and he is the fuckin' man. David Bowie is one of the best music people ever.

Heh, I think I'm kindof the opposite to you. Generally I'm kindof indie and stuff but if I were to have a guilty pleasure, it would be heavy metal. I don't think there are many people who have Mastodon and Sunn O))) on their iPods alongside Belle and Sebastian and Joanna Newsom. I enjoy my friends metal gigs way more than I feel I should.

It's easier to be a different person online though, as in most cases you don't have to look at the person you're talking to, or come in contact with them reguarly.
And most people online won't know anything about you, and will take anything you say, do or the way you act at face value, and assume that it is who you are.

This is why talking to people you like is so much easier online, as you don't have to look at their reactions and body language.
(If you hadn't guessed, i'm a kinda shy person in real life)
See, now that got ruined by the invention of smileys.
Damn smileys. Kill them all, I say. Kill them all to death!
[sub]And I'm shy too, ssssh[/sub]

And I was more referring to the fact that on the internet, people can't walk away from you.
If you make a joke, and it was really bad, here you can explain that it was a joke.
In real life they would go away and stop hanging out with you.

Or is that just me?
This is true i suppose. I should know this from first hand experience ;)
Whilst i'm good at making people laugh, sometimes i go abit too far, and people end up hating me for a couple of days.

Well, the first girl I felt affection for was Rika from Digimon Tamers...
But to put it in a more, less stupid way, I prefer fictional girls to any real one I have ever met.

The fact you've admitted you have feeling earns you some man points.

In society, i also try to play down the fact that i am very interested in computers and gaming, and the fact that i've built my own, and several other people's computers.
Theres some sort of unwritten law that says anybody interesting in computers = nerd, when in reality, i'm really not.
I'm as much into certain sports as other people, and i enjoy other activities aswell, such as motorcycling.

The problem with modern society is that it's too judgemental :p

My guilty shame when on the Escapist (due to the many metalheads here) is that I think Metal is quite possibly the worst genre in the history of everything. It's just... it's all really, really really boring. And shit. And not really worth paying any kind of attention to.
It depends on who and what veriety of metal you listen to.
Most metal bands just end up sounding the same, which is why i think i eventually moved onto more extreme forms of metal, to get some more veriety in what i was listening to

Right on.

Sometimes I enjoy acting out medieval style fighting fantasies :D

Kind of like... Pretending I'm actually in the Mount&Blade world and am the main character. Talking to my sergeants, orchastrating battle plans and the likes...

Then again, I enjoy LRP-ing.

I have many things that others may consider "guilty pleasures", such as musically I love Van Morrison - I think the guy is a genius - but I don't think of it as something to be ashamed about because I'm open about it - even though it's not at all like the music I listen to most of the time (or around friends, for that matter), though when questioned I'll answer truthfully. I may not go around spreading the word of certain things but like I say when asked I'll always answer as that's what makes me me. I've always held the opinion that there's no reason to hide a secret as such because if someone else doesn't share the same view then they can either continue being a friend or if not then it's not my loss - life's too short to be ashamed of who you are.
