Shion from Xenosaga, oh dear god Shion.
Here is a character that perfectly embodies the description "Anime Girl". She's that combination of cutesy, ditzy, and overly caring, done to a nauseating degree. Her naive attitude makes it absolutely impossible to take her seriously, trying to convince me that she is supposed to be some sort of renowned scientist seems like a cruel joke. She seems more like a clumsy 14 year-old than anything.
I couldn't even make it out of the prologue before I knew I utterly despised her character.
Soldiers and robots are dying to hold off virtually unkillable aliens so that she can get to safety, what does she do? She stands there like a lump and bawls about it, in the same room, while the fighting is still going on and the aliens she was running from keep coming closer and closer. She doesn't help her allies, she doesn't keep running to safety, she just...stands there.

do noobs counts as characters? i know its my thread but still...
Is that a G3 assult rifle with a sniper scope or am I just using my Call of Duty 4 videogame "knowledge" to lable a gun that resembles it?

OT: I'd have to go with, *thinking of recent games I've played* The russian Dragovich from Black Ops for being such a dick.

Gordon Freeman. Seriously.

He's just a mute with no personality, no development and no interesting backstory. The only thing people can attach to him is his appearance, and that only ever appears in game art, and yet so many people treat him like he's the Coming of Gaming Jesus.
I concur with this
i agree with your concurance, gordon can takes striders down with a crowbar if he wanted to...he just dosent.
Me too,Gordon is overrated
Not reading the rest of the thread but VOTE NUMBER 5. I really have no specific reason to not like him, except for the fanboys. One of my guy friends wants to have his kids i swear and i get so SICK of hearing about him. If there were some redeeming quality to him, maybe i'd like him a bit more, but there really isn't anything good or bad about him except the fanboys.

On another note: Most hated character ever, period.

This guy, right here. You are not Mewtwo. You will never be Mewtwo. You are beneath him, in manure, you unbelievable waste of flesh and cheap blue paint. You are so far beneath him you wouldn't see it if one of his lowest mind control slaves wrote "Suck It" on the bottom of their shoe. You are a completely useless creature, serving only as material for the less-picky among us to make less-than-work-safe images about. You dominate nothing. You defeat nothing. You shouldn't even exist.
This is what you are. THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE. ALL YOU WILL EVER BE. GO CRAWL UNDER A ROCK AND DIE.
Go cry to your ridiculous fanbase while they look at more aforementioned images.
Oh and

That still feels so good.

My most hated character is... well I don't exactly have one. I thought about it for quite some time and there were those who did annoy me but I didn't hate them particularly.

I have thought of one not really a character more than it is a type of character. I hate... I hate....
Little girl characters who piss me off and that almost always die at the most inconvenient time because you failed to kill the last Nazi-Zombie Aztec mummified fried chicken monster. Also if they're not the type you have to protect they are the ones which appear, mostly in survival horror/horror games were they show brief glimpses of themselves causing you too chase after them into a dark alley way where you then get stabbed in the back... literary, also good job if you got the game reference.

P.S. Ghost and Nikolai from the Call of Duty franchise are extremely over rated, I don't exactly hate them but they annoy me for being popular over doing nothing.

"This hurts you"

Oh... I was uh... I was not aware.

OT: Fuckin Reaver from Fable 2.

The fact that you couldn't kill him, and the fact that he basically ruined the ending pissed me off. Hopefully that asshat dies in Fable 3.

Don't tell me though.
Actually I kind of liked him at some point in 2, his sense of humor does have a charm in it, but in 3 he's even more annoying. They simply made him to be a hated character. I mean not a little but far far worse than 2.
Reaver's arguments in court and synopses of royal decisions were the funniest things in the entire game to me.

OT: I was going to say Yoshi, but I was beaten to the punch with the very first reply, so I guess I'll say Travis Touchdown. That guy makes me want to put on my ass-kicking shoes and then put them so far up there that he can taste them.

Oh, and Yuffie. Shut up, Yuffie.

Tidus from Final Fantasy X. The most obnoxious FF main character to date IMHO.
Aye, it was with him my hatred for J-RPGs began. Used to play Final Fantasy all the time when I was a kid, and while I do like FFX a lot, it would have been way more awesome without that whining brat(and Rikku for that matter).
Hope and Vanille from FFXIII, as many has mentioned, are also two objects of hate for me. I dislike every character in that game, but they take the price.

Couldn't really stand Dante from Dante's Inferno either. Most of his lines felt so damn cheesy and the game overall was just stupid
"Who dares enter my house of pain?
It is I who love my wife!"
That we got to see his dick in the end movie didn't help either. I got traumatised for life!

Vanille from FF13. I could, and have, go on for days about why, but lets just say that the ONLY way I could feel anything but hate for her is if she was burned alive, healed, dunked in lava, healed, then thrown into a meat grinder. I HATE HER THAT FUCKING MUCH!
Then check this out, someone gratefully animated the final part of yathzee's review of FF XIII

That's so cute! He even broke her womb!?!

I'm not playing the game, but I'm sure I'd like her, more than Rikku at least.
well the guy who created this got inspired for some reason

THANK YOU!!! I seriously don't know why everyone says he's one of the best game characters created. Oh wait, I do. It's because everyone loves half life and that's all they can think about.

Anyways, I'm gonna have to go with Marcus Fenix, from Gears of War. He's just a retarded asshole, with no real personal reason for wanting to kill the locust. I mean, yes, survival is a good reason, but why isn't Dom the main character. I mean, he actually has emotions besides just cynical and sarcastic, and he's got a real reason to be completely pissed at the locust. What does Marcus have? Testosterone and a dead father. Not that I wouldn't get mad if my father were killed, but his father had to be like 80 years old when he died! Get over it, the old fart would've died in a couple years anyway! Anyways, yeah, I hate him...

Thought: All these people saying they hate Gordon Freeman actually hate themselves? Would explain why they hate a character whose only purpose is for the player to project themselves onto him, atleast.

OT: In recent memory? Probably Arcturus Mengsk from the Starcraft games. Then again, your kinda supposed to hate him, so "Mission Accomplished" on Blizzard's part.

Now come on, Carth wasn't that bad. At least he was fantastically well voiced, and had a reason for being a whiny little *****. As long as you're light sided, he won't baww you to death.
Bastila was a bit of a *****, but HK-47 takes the cake. He's not funny. He's a boring twat and the only reason i buy him is for the sand people quest. He chips in to every single conversation with boring repetitive dialogue about murdering the subject. If he were, say, sadistic, i might not be so harsh. All he ever chips in with is "can i blast him now master". You're a 7 foot hunk of metal, and all you can fucking come up with is shooting? What about tearing his limbs off? Spitting battery acid in his eyes?

I know I've been ninja'd many times, probably, but yes. To this day, I'm still doubting Slippy's gender... and also, very annoying. Worst part of Starfox 64.

Also, I'm gonna have to say Jun from Halo: Reach. He was more of a nuance than a help.

And the turian Council member in the Mass Effect series. I just wanna punch him in the face.

Dont you get it, YOU are Gordon Freeman.
DUN DUN DUN DUUUUNNNNN!!!

But seriously, that is what Valve wants, the player must feel like he is the one in there, that is why he doesnt talk and you never see his face in gameplay, also why there are no cutscenes.

I've played Half-Life a lot, and I love the games, but I've never considered myself being Gordon Freeman. If you're doing some role-playing in a role-playing game I can get it, eventhough I find it incredibly awkward, but in shooters it doesnt make much sense to me.
Don't hate or like him, but I can understand why people dislike him. He isn't a character. He is a name with a face we only see on box arts, other than that he's just hollow.

Silent protagonists are always a bit dull to me. Like Link and uhm... other...!
