I can't decide between the Turian Councillor and Anomen from Baldur's Gate 2. I'm probably leaning towards the whinny, Lawful Neutral little prick.

Teddie from Persona 4. Just.. why.

And with the same actor, Welkin from Valkyria Chronicles. It has some of the worst dialogue in any game I can remember (and all the interesting characters are bit characters like Marina), but he really stands out as the most frustrating, whiny, Mary Sue-ish character in there.

I had to play the game with Japanese audio just to get away from that nasal scratching that is his voice.

Vanille really wasn't as bad as people give her credit for. Hope, however, is an amalgamate of all the worst characters in anime and JRPGs since the eighties.
Teddie english voice is not bad, fits him well when is a bear-thing, but start to sound strange when he became human...

I am in between Tidus and Sheeva.

Final Fantasy likes to make very unlikeable characters. Squall and Hope are very high on my most annoying characters list. Squall wins by a bit only because he is such a fucking emo about everything. Hope whines to no end too, but he lost his mother and has to travel with the person who was responsible for her death. I don't know why SquareEnix wants to do this, they made very likable characters before(Sazh, Cecil, the entire FF6 cast), they should really stick with making likable characters.

I don't hate Gordon Freeman, but he doesn't deserve any credit. It's just me, but I think making him mute because you're supposed to be playing as him translates to "We're not going to take another 4 fucking years to make this completely average FPS so one character has a fitting personality." It seems very lazy.

Alyx Vance.

She knew gordon freeman was Godlike from his black mesa exploits(from her father which she proudly retardedly exclaims) , but still she bitches and moans and talks to the PC (playercharacter) like if he was a frikking retard.

"Gordan DAT is A headKRAB, looK OUT FoR IT!, YOu haz not ever seen one B4!!!"

I missed the Hl1 super panicing scientists, Alyx would suit that role so much better.

Also allmost all the new cast to SC2, luckily most of them get killed off. (a dwarf on a spaceship OK OK OK mess up the game more BLIZz) Jamacian Headhunter ( troll?) space pirate, sure. Raynor's friend is such a tool also + just fails at the story.

Alzo Headband fail.

Or maybe you could play a real game where you do more then mash B for a bit then mash A

(like, oh say... KI, MK, MvC, SF, etc.)

Baby Mario. The little ****.

Mr Resetti was awesome. He talked for ages and said something new every time. I just kept resetting to hear him rant. You know he only comes out when you don't save right? He was a kind of joke aimed at people who try to reset their games because they didn't like what happened. He forced you to play and accept the consequences. What a great life lesson that is!

The dog from Duckhunt. It's a pretty standard answer but damn! He's as annoying as it gets.

GLaDOS, not only because she put me through cryptic puzzling hell, but also because her voice reminds me of a teacher I had

Gordon Freeman. Seriously.

He's just a mute with no personality, no development and no interesting backstory. The only thing people can attach to him is his appearance, and that only ever appears in game art, and yet so many people treat him like he's the Coming of Gaming Jesus.
Gordon Freeman is an example brilliant character creation for exactly those reasons.

Valve understands that the best thing you can do with a story element is to let the players fill some of the holes with their own imagination or personality, so they created a Hero that makes it very easy for the player to feel that they actually ARE Freeman himself. For example, when Alyx (or any other NPC) is talking to Gordon, the players feel that they are actually talking directly to them instead of to their character. When Freeman is referred to as "The one free man", players automatically think "_I_ am the one free man". The more personality the developers put on a character, the less the players imagination get to work.

Gordon isn't popular because people are just jumping the bandwagon. Gordon is popular because he allows players to BE him when they play, filling the blanks with their own personality and imagination. The fact that you don't catch how this works is why you guys would make terrible game designers. Gordon is an ingenius demonstration of the fact that, sometimes, less is more.

Edit: Oh and on topic, probably Jack in Mass Effect 2. Or Noober in Baldur's Gate! :D

Garrosh Hellscream. He killed Cairne, dammit! There better be a quest to take him down!
No, he didn't Magatha Grimtotem poisoned Cairne and that's why he's dead. Garrosh actually leads a campaign with Baine to take back Thunder Bluff from the Grimtotems. Stop your hating on the best faction leader this instant.

OT: Vaan from Final Fantasy XII instantly comes to mind. That thing does not deserve a character slot in Dissidia.
