*Spoilers*

Story-wise, it was a fantastic game - I loved how very few of the quests were simple "good" or "bad" choices, it had lots of "grey" areas; you were never too sure if the choice you were making was ultimately the right one.
GoTo was a prime example, the fact he was a droid programmed to preserve the republic and stay within its laws - but ultimately deciding thats its laws were what had caused it to stagnate and verge towards collapse. It chose that the preservation of the republic was worth any means necessary. The republic protects and does well for those under it, so thats worth anything to preserve... right?
Kreia also proved this perfectly, her explanation of Revan was superb (clearly dont watch this if you want to experience it for yourself):

Yeah, loved its moral greyness - hated the fact it was rushed and had stuff edited out or outright unresolved. Would definitely recommend it as worth a look though

Has been many a year since I played it. I remember thinking it was good, but not as good as the first.

I enjoyed it very much, I can't compare it to the first one as I have never played it, I always meant to but never got round to it.

Let me think, combat was the same as KotOR, the plot was ok (I guess), I did like the variety of planets you could visit, and they had HK in all his Flesh-bag hating glory :)

I enjoyed it, but I liked the first one better... The last half was disappointing and seemed to drag on at times... So for me it was a good rent...

It was good, a great storyline and characters to say the least.

But it was also bugged and broken beyond tolerance unless you got both the patch, and most of every gameplay rescuing mod out there. Especially the Main Restoration mod that came out not a few months ago.

Blame Lucas Arts for the epic failure. They wanted KotOR 2 out for Christmas, regardless of the quality of it's content, and pressured Obsidian to rush (ie. fuck over) the last 45% of the game to make it for the holidays. Fucking George Lucas.

See, I'm one of the people that really despised the story in KOTOR 2. Not the overall plot, necessarily; that was fairly interesting. My problem was that it was really poorly told, and not just because of being unfinished. It's never clearly explained why you're doing what you're doing. Sure you find out that someone's pulling the strings, but there seems to be very little reason behind anything you do leading up to that.
Why am I looking for Jedi? Oh, for revenge or answers. That's a pretty limited scope for roleplaying, and it doesn't gel well with the character up to that point. (s)He's just spent the past few years traveling alone, now all of a sudden they want to go to random places looking for Jedi.

In general too, the game suffered from way too much angst. I always get bored when games try to be "dark" and emo. It just feels like the devs never got out of the angsty teen years.
The characters were also, mostly, boring. I hated Visas, because she was so... whiny? IDK, she just seemed too much like some goth kid's wet dream. The only interesting character IMO was Bao Dur, because he really had depth, and it all fit. Atton was inconsistent (am I a depressed assassin, or a Han Solo stand-in mixed with comedy relief?).

There was also a general balance issue. If you put any effort into maximizing your character, the last level was a joke (walk in, cast stasis field, cast Adv throw, exit room, repeat). Then, the final boss resists most force powers, almost always hits you and does a ton of damage. It was never interesting or fun fighting her, it was just frustrating and tedious.

That being said, I did enjoy the game. It's the same story with all Obsidian games: they're guilty pleasures. There are a ton of things that bother me, but I can't deny that I enjoy it most of the time. I just generally feel that their games lack polish and never really live up to potential.

Awesome game that lucas arts rushed obsidian to release. If they took their time with it, it could've been amazing.

I love both KotOR, and I reinstall and play them every once in a while. that said I do prefer number 1 over number 2, but only slightly, and that's mainly because Revan is my favourite Star Wars character.

Just look at my avatar, if you don't believe me :p

This is what I like about the game. The main character returns and the Jedi ar egone. My character wants to know what happened, I want to know what happened. Finding the Jedi masters is a reward for both the character and the player, while the maps in the first game only a reward for the character, only indirectly (by leading the character further along the plot) a reward for the player.

This I can't really agree with, a game can be darker without being "emo".

I really liked it. I have a friend who found a bunch of fan made patches and mods to unlock and finish all the content that wasn't finished by release and he said with that content open it was actually better than the first. I haven't had a chance to play thru it with the completed content, but from what he said it sounded like a really great fan mod.

I played KoTOR2 first. Now that I've played them both, I can say neither one is a bad game. Both have some glitches, but I don't mind so much. I do like KoTOR2 better though. Some of the UI improvements push it over the edge for me.

I love it, even more than I liked the first. The visuals were vastly improved, the gameplay was just as fun, the voice work and music was stellar and the narrative and writing was top-notch - in my opinion, there hasn't been a character created to match Kreia for depth ever. Seriously. The amount of effort that must have gone into writing her character is immense. I don't care that she's a conniving, manipulative *****, I love her. Add to that all the stuff that links into the Expanded Universe and you have easily my favourite piece of the Star Wars canon since The Empire Strikes Back, let alone one of the best RPGs out there.

That said, the whole "it-wasn't-completed" thing does suck, but I think the fact that they made such an amazing game and it wasn't even finished stands as a testament to Obsidian's skill.

i thought the gameplay mechanics were excellent and the additional force powers and weapons were really sweet, the level cap increase was totally needed, and the variety of characters and character types was great too. there were good quests and a decent if a little patchy main storyline. so that was all good.

But what really hurt the game was the rushed cuts and the awful ending, it really took away from what should've been an excellent game, an entire planet was cut from the finished product, for shame:( I'd love if obsidian were like; Hey! seeing as how everyone knows the game was released too early; here' the finished re release: Kotor 2: the full game. whats the big problem with that? a nice shiny re relase, all it would have to do is add in all the missing content

.... and come on! where's Kotor 3? and battlefront 3?
george lucas must really hate modern star wars media that doesnt suck!
i wish an actual star wars fan would buy the rights of star wars off that douche bag

I really liked the game. Not as good as the first but still pretty damn good. Enjoyed all the different force powers and lightsaber customizations they added.

I have never played it but if it is anything like the first game and tells a good story then i would probably like it.

I actually played KoTOR 2 before the first one and it made me fall in love with the genre. And in my opinion the only reason KoTOR is better than KoTOR 2 is because KoTOR 2 was never truly finished.
i did the same thing, i'm playing through the original KOTOR atm as i got it in the latest steam sale
