I liked it. I will have to re-install it one day and download the community patch/mod that puts in place all of the things that Obsidian left out.

I got it when it first came out. The story was the only part that was even close to good, and even that was rushed and unfinished. The level design was terrible (can I please get off this goddamn asteroid?) in a lot of places, and the bugs nearly rendered some parts unplayable. Nar Shadaa in KotOR 2 is the only part of any game I've ever had a save file get corrupted on the Xbox or the 360. Until, that is, I played New Vegas, which is also an Obsidian product. KotOR 2 looked especially bad when you put it up against the well polished original.

Honestly, it pales in comparison to KOTOR 1 but it is very good. KotOR 1 was an amazing game, i would give it a 10/10 and theres only 2 games i give a 10/10 (that and Mass Effect 2). Now on the other hand, KotOR 2 is an amazing game as well and sits in my top 10 as number 7. I find the game graphically impressive for xbox, the story is alright but not stellar like the first one and the gameplay is amazing, stop action rpg is great. Personally i love the KotOR series, 2 included, the Sith Lords isnt my favorite game of the two but it is incredibly good.

My class was Sith Lord, not Paladin or Mage, but a fucking Sith Lord, RPG that has a Sith Lord for a class must be in top 5.

Darth Traya is my favorite Sith of the entire Star Wars franchise. I'd even go as far to say she's one of the most intriguing villain in any game I've ever played.

Plus, having padawan learners is hella fun.

I liked it quite a bit. I thought that the story was better than the first, for the most part (the crap ending really drags it down though). There were many great gameplay improvements over its predecessor, but it also ran crappier and had more bugs. As it is right now, it is almost as good as the original. I think if they had another 6 months to a year to work on it, it could have surpassed the original.

I loved it.
The new UI and gameplay improvements weren't really noteworthy for me, but the story was sooooo much better. In my opinion it stands head and shoulders above the first one.
The first one had that typical bioware formula, i.e. the only interesting thing about it was the big twist.(I find that really boring, I mean it's just a one trick pony and not a very good one in my opinion)

But KOTOR 2 reminded me very much of Planescape:Torment in the sense that, for all the problems in the galaxy, it's a very personal and also very philosophical story. It's never really about saving the galaxy, but about the exile.
Kreia being one of the best written characters in video game history helps too.

It is while since I played it, but I recall few things... negative mostly.
Upgrades for weapons and armor were overcomplicated (too much figuring out and messing in menus to accomplish anything), and since they made BIG difference in fights, you wanted to upgrade whenever you could.
Really rushed through interactions with NPC and party members (f.e. romances felt like they were happening off screen). Also, most of the cast is under developed - main villain seemed like he is there just for the sake of having one.
Ending is none existent - it's almost like BioWare run out of game or something.

True that. Not many gams made you THINK about long term consequences of your choices. Single reason I always had Kreaia in my party.

Fair enough. For me it felt shallow just because it felt like there wasn't sufficient motivation for what you were doing. Like I said, I know I'm in the minority on that one, but there it is.

Yeah, they can be, but I haven't really seen a game pull it off well yet. For instance, compare the visuals and the color palette in 1 to 2. 1 has a lot more vibrant colors and bright lights, whereas 2 was much more drab and brown. I know that was the what they were going for, but it created a game that was all down all the time, despite the weak attempts at "humor". When a game is monochromatic (probably not the best word, but you get the idea) it makes much less impact. Contrast in setting and narrative yield much better results. Disney's Lion King is actually a really good example of this. Compare the visuals for the songs Hakuna Ma-tata (sp?) and Be Prepared. Totally different visual styles and color palettes, and as a result, they have a much greater impact.

Games have yet to utilize this much, however. It's seems like they're either bright or dark. They don't blend well.

Thing about Kotor 2, in some ways it showed a tangible improvement over the first, in other ways it really was a let down. The general gaming mechanics for example were a huge step up, cool new force powers, etc. I really liked the locations and some bits of it were real slices of genius.

That being said, overall it doesn't live up to its predecesor. Where it really fails I think is the story line. Even ignoring the big gaping holes from rushed development, something just seems meh. I mean, I know what they were going for, trying to make the series darker and more philosophical, but I don't know, it just wasn't as good as the first. Same thing happened with the prequels.

Still, I've got a good feeling for the upcoming mmo. I think Bioware will really combine the best of both games and bring us something spectacular.

I thought storyline for both was impeccable. I thought gameplay, however, was... well... It loses it's replay value because of it.

Go and look up Darth Stoney's M4-78 Mod. It is some of the best work done for Kotor 2. He is currently working on adapting it to work with the Restoration Mod.

I find KOTOR 2 to be much better than the original.

Aside from the "WTF - is that even an ending" ending and the whole some parts that are supposed to be there are missing

I still like it way more than the original.

Developer wise, I always find that Obsidian has the best writer in the business. Bioware always made a better game but Obsidian always have a better writing

Ever play the first KotOR game before it got patched? Much worse than the second game.

My thoughts is that it was a great game that was overshadowed by its predecessor's popularity, getting screwed by their publishers, and just good old-fashioned Star Wars fans refusing to ever enjoy anything ever.

I didn't mind so much. There are next to no Star Wars games where the lead is canonically female.

I felt the Female players were screwed for not being able to have Handmaiden.

the story is fucking bs, i loathe it with ever fibre in my being fuck off can one guy eat entire fucking plnets force but cant kill 3 fucking people this game sucks so bad it took away brain cells.

actually the only good thing i can say is that it didn't throw me to the main menu whenever i died.
